Lindy Li calls Jake Tapper's book a 'slap in the face' for people who questioned Biden's mental fitness

WASHINGTON, DC: Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Mid-Atlantic regional chair Lindy Li slammed CNN anchor Jake Tapper's upcoming book as hypocritical during her appearance on 'The Ruben Report' podcast that aired on Saturday, April 5, reported Fox News.

Li left the party in December 2024 after being sidelined for criticizing the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Earlier, she was a loyal supporter of former president Joe Biden but called for him to step aside when she became concerned about his mental acuity to continue for a second term.

Tapper's new book titled 'Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again', which is co-written by Axios journalist Alex Thompson, has attracted much criticism, including from Li, as the journalist lectured Trump campaign members for questioning Biden's fitness back in 2020.

Podcast host Dave Rubin brought up the subject of former president Joe Biden's cognitive issues being acknowledged by Democrats and liberal media outlets during his conversation with Lindy Li.

"Sort of reminds me... Jake Tapper announced he has a book about the scandal around Biden’s health. It’s like, ‘Dude, you were running cover for it for three years while some of us were talking about it literally four or five years ago,'" he said. 

Li responded by rolling her eyes and noting that Taper made her furious. She claimed to have known Biden "in a private capacity" and argued that it was not the case for the journalist.

"With Jake Tapper, he wasn’t in the room, and I’ve never seen him at any events, so all the intel from this book is second-hand," Li said. "Let’s be honest (about) what it was. It was an outright lie that he was cognitively fit."

She added that Tapper’s book "is like a slap in the face to those of us who were punished for bringing it up," as she was among those who were apparently penalized for saying it first.

Li stated that her appearances on CNN became scarce after she voiced her concern over Joe Biden.

The former Democrat also took to the social media platform X to slam the journalist, accusing him of "trying to rewrite history" to sell his book. 

She wrote, "Tapper is another clown who’s trying to rewrite history Don’t forget he maliciously attacked @LaraLeaTrump for questioning Biden’s fitness He enforced the party line that Biden was a genius (but only behind closed doors) Don’t buy his damn book Don’t fall for the grift." 

She also called out California Governor Gavin Newsom over the same issue, alleging that he knew of Biden's mental decline long before he addressed it in public. 

"Newsom makes me ILL He’s now pretending he knew Biden was unfit all along when he was the BIGGEST liar about his mental decline He’s pretending he’s a moderate when CA is one of the BIGGEST spewers of trans insanity Meanwhile I was banned from Bidenworld for telling the truth," Li added in another post.

Jake Tapper raised concerns about Joe Biden's mental fitness

CNN's Jake Tapper reportedly began to speak out against Joe Biden's mental acuity in the aftermath of the debate between the former president and President Donald Trump, which he moderated.

He had also grilled former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about whether Biden was "too old" to be president in 2023. 

"Time and again, Jake raised concerns about President Biden’s mental stamina on his show, questioned Biden officials directly on air, and consistently encouraged open discussion and debate on the issue," stated a representative for Tapper.

"Any claim that Jake sought to discourage these conversations is demonstrably false and contradicted by the clear record of his reporting," they continued.

"Jake and Alex's book contains first-hand accounts of President Biden's state based on interviews with more than 200 people. Stay tuned for what they discovered," they added.

Conservatives slam Jake Tapper's upcoming book

Conservatives on social media slammed Jake Tapper on Facebook after Lindy Li's remarks about the journalist's book.

"Why would anyone read a book by Jake Tapper?" asked one social media user.

"Who needs to read his book it was obvious to most of us before he was even in office!"  wrote another while calling out both Tapper and Biden. 

"Don’t need a book or anyone telling me Biden was NOT fit for office. Anyone with eyes and 1/2 brain could tell he was unfit!" one person declared.

"Reading the book will be an absolute waste of time," another commented.

"He knew about Biden’s failing health and said nothing Now all of a sudden he sees the problem. Actually he is part of the problem," one individual added.
