SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA: A quiet Louisiana neighborhood woke to unimaginable horror on Sunday, April 19, after eight children were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport.

Two adult women survived critical gunshot wounds, while the suspected gunman was later killed by police after fleeing the scene, hijacking a vehicle, and leading officers on a chase.

Authorities said some of the dead children were believed to be related to the suspect.

Police uncover devastating multi-scene crime spree

Officers were called shortly after 6 am to West 79th Street over reports of a domestic disturbance. Instead of a routine call, police encountered a sprawling and chaotic crime scene involving multiple nearby homes.

Investigators said gunfire erupted at one residence, while connected scenes were later identified at a second nearby property and another location on Harrison Street.

Emergency crews rushed survivors from the area as officers secured streets and canvassed homes.

Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon described the scale of the incident as unusually complex. “You have three different scenes,” he said, explaining that victims were found at separate locations tied to the same rampage.

Authorities confirmed that ten people were shot in total. Eight children, ages 1 to 14, died from their injuries. Two adult women survived despite being struck in the head and were hospitalized.

The names of the victims had not yet been publicly released as officials worked to notify relatives.

Suspect killed after police chase

According to investigators, the suspect fled immediately after the attack and then forcibly took another vehicle nearby in an attempt to escape.

Patrol officers located the stolen vehicle and began a pursuit that crossed into Bossier Parish. The chase ended when officers confronted the suspect, who was shot dead by law enforcement.

Bordelon said investigators currently believe only one gunman carried out the shootings. “We do believe him to be the only individual that fired gunshots at these locations,” he said.

Authorities have not announced an official motive. However, police said some of the killed children were believed to be the suspect’s own descendants.

Investigators are now reconstructing the final hours before the attack, including who was inside the homes, what triggered the violence, and whether warning signs existed beforehand.
