‘Love you, sweetie’: Joseph and Kendra Duggar exchanged Bible verses, romantic emails from jail
WASHINGTON, DC: Kendra Duggar and her husband Joseph Duggar exchanged emails while he was in jail. These emails showed support, love, and shared religious beliefs as the couple deals with ongoing legal issues.
The messages, seen in legal documents, show that the couple remained emotionally connected.
Emails show Kendra and Joseph Duggar referencing scripture, offering support
While Joseph Duggar was in jail at the Washington County Detention Facility in Arkansas, Kendra Duggar kept in touch with him all the time.
They called each other every day, sometimes for up to 40 minutes, and they also sent each other emails to say how much they loved each other.
Records that PEOPLE obtained show that Kendra and Joseph talked on the phone for 30 minutes on March 23. At 8.06 am, the call ended. Ten minutes later, Joseph sent his wife an email that said, "I hope this finds you well. I love you, sweetie!"
Joseph did the same thing on March 24, emailing Kendra shortly after the two got off the phone that morning.
"[G]reat talking with you today! i always love getting to hear your voice! hope you have a wonderful grade filled day!" he reportedly wrote.
He then told Kendra in the email that he is reading "Psalm 54" and "replacing the personal pronouns with your name!" because "that passage has brought me great comfort!"
That psalm reads in part: "Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me — people without regard for God.”
Kendra Duggar told Joseph it was 'good to talk to you'
Joseph Duggar was arrested on March 18 in connection with a 2020 Florida case and is facing felony charges. He is also facing other charges in Arkansas related to child welfare and false imprisonment.
Kendra was also charged in Arkansas with similar child welfare-related crimes, but reports say that those charges are not connected to her husband's Florida case.
On March 25, Kendra wrote back, "It is good to talk to you! Love you!!"
The following day, on March 26, Joseph emailed a "<3" to his wife. Kendra later sent the final email exchanged between the couple before Joseph was extradited to Florida.
She then included the lyrics to 'The Truth', a Christian song by Megan Woods.
"How many times can you hear the same lie before you start to believe it?" the song begins. "The enemy keeps whisperin' to me, I swear these days, it's all that I'm hearin'."
The couple is back together in Arkansas after Joseph was let go on a $600,000 bond in Florida. Joseph hasn't been arraigned yet, but he did send a written plea of not guilty to the court.
He and Kendra are also getting ready for a court hearing in Arkansas on April 29. They were both charged with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.
