Maggie Haberman says Trump is 'helping' keep Epstein speculation alive: ‘He can’t stop talking about it’

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump says he cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein years ago, but can't seem to help himself talking about it.
Despite trying to dodge the heat, the president keeps adding gasoline to the Epstein fire. CNN’s Maggie Haberman noted that Trump just can’t seem to help himself, and it's left everyone (including members of his own team) wondering why he won’t let the issue die.
“He can’t find a way to stop talking about it, and also doesn’t wanna keep talking about it,” Haberman said on 'The Source' Wednesday, July 30.
Trump just can’t quit talking about Epstein
Trump’s been under renewed scrutiny ever since his own Department of Justice refused to cough up those long-hyped Epstein files. Naturally, the press has been talking about it ever since, demanding answers about Trump’s relationship with the convicted pedophile.

Trump has made some baffling decisions that have kept Epstein’s name ricocheting around the headlines.
He sued The Wall Street Journal for claiming he sent Epstein a cheeky birthday card in 2003. Trump denies it, but the lawsuit kept the story alive instead of shutting it down.
Secondly, Trump's Justice Department sent Deputy AG Todd Blanche to grill Ghislaine Maxwell in prison.
Trump has also refused to rule out a pardon for Maxwell. Recently, he alleged that Epstein “stole” a teenage employee from Mar-a-Lago — namely Virginia Giuffre, the woman who was later trafficked by Epstein. She ultimately died by suicide at her home in Neergabby, Western Australia, on April 25 this year at the age of 41.
Maggie Haberman chimes in on Trump's comments on Epstein
On Wednesday night, CNN’s Haberman told Kaitlan Collins that even Trump’s own team is exhausted by the Epstein chatter.
Haberman said Trump administration officials have Epstein "fatigue." She explained, “But not just fatigue with Democrats talking about it or podcasters talking about it, or Joe Rogan talking about it — the president himself keeps talking about it."

Haberman noted how Trump gave reporters fresh Epstein content from Air Force One on his return trip from Europe.
“He provided, on Air Force One yesterday on his way back from Europe, new information that had not been heard before," she explained. "He has been telling a specific story about a break with Jeffrey Epstein for many, many years. And now he started talking about how Jeffrey Epstein, quote unquote, ‘stole’ workers who were extremely young women, at least in one case, from his employ at Mar-a-Lago. So, that is helping keep this alive, too.”
Trump 'can’t find a way to stop talking about' Epstein
Kaitlan Collins chimed in with her own observation — namely that Trump’s tendency to bring up Epstein, then ghost the follow-ups, isn’t exactly helping his case.
“Obviously, he has the prerogative to answer whatever questions he wants or not answer them,” Collins said. “But it is notable when he engages on Air Force One, and he’s telling these stories about his history with him and then not answering the follow-ups about what exactly happened.”

“Look, I think that he can’t find a way to stop talking about it, and also doesn’t wanna keep talking about it,” Haberman responded. “I will say, Kaitlan, the word ‘stole’ is going to land very poorly with a lot of women and certainly a lot of women who were victims of Jeffrey Epstein. And so, I’m not sure how, again, providing new information in his own voice, unsolicited, about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, I don’t know how this calms this down.”
While speaking to reporters in Scotland on Monday, July 28, Trump explained the staff poaching incident.
“For years, I wouldn’t talk to Jeffrey Epstein,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t talk — because he did something that was inappropriate. He hired help, and I said, ‘Don’t ever do that again.’ He stole people that work for me. I said, ‘Don’t ever do that again.’ He did it again, and I threw him out of the place, persona non grata. I threw him out, and that was it. I’m glad I did.”
The president also swore that he never visited Epstein’s notorious private island, Little St James.
