Trump says he’s allowed to pardon Ghislaine Maxwell in potential move, Internet calls it ‘political end’

TURNBERRY, SCOTLAND: President Donald Trump said he’s legally allowed to pardon convicted trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell but declined to say whether he intends to do so.
His remark came just days after Maxwell reportedly met with Department of Justice officials.
Q: Are you considering a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell?

Trump acknowledges authority to pardon Ghislaine Maxwell but says no request has been made
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday, July 28, Donald Trump responded to a question about whether he would rule out a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, 63.
“Well, I’m allowed to give her a pardon,” Trump said, before adding, “Nobody’s approached me with it, nobody’s asked me about it.” He continued, “It’s in the news, that aspect of it. But right now, it would be inappropriate to talk about it.”

Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking in connection with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, recently met with federal officials, reigniting public speculation over Trump’s potential role in future legal outcomes tied to the case.

Donald Trump administration-linked probe expands as Ghislaine Maxwell details alleged Epstein connections
Meanwhle, Ghislaine Maxwell held her second day of meetings with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. She reportedly discussed nearly 100 individuals the Trump administration believes may have had ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

“She answered questions about everybody and she didn’t hold anything back,” said her attorney, David Markus. “She wants to tell the truth, because the truth can be corroborated or disproven. If she lies, they can charge her with lying.”
Markus also said he has appealed Maxwell’s conviction to the Supreme Court, opening another possible path to her release.
Donald Trump calls Jeffrey Epstein ‘old history,’ insists he never visited island linked to trafficking scandal
Meanwhile, Donald Trump distanced himself from Jeffrey Epstein, saying, “I never had the privilege of going to his island, and I did turn it down... I didn’t want to go to his island.”
When asked about his falling out with Epstein, Trump responded, “That’s such old history, very easy to explain, but I don’t want to waste your time by explaining it.”

He then claimed Epstein had poached staff from him: “He stole people that worked for me... He did it again, and I threw him out of the place. Persona non grata.”
Internet erupts over Donald Trump’s pardon comment, calls it 'fraud' and 'end of administration'
The internet voiced strong opposition to the idea of a pardon, though some argued it was worth it if it helped expose the names on the list. Others speculated it could be part of a deal to remove Donald Trump’s own name from the disclosures.
“He does that and that will be the political end of his entire family and current administration. Perhaps it’s a good idea after all,” one X user wrote.
“If pardoning Maxwell brought out the names of the island visitors and their activities, it would be well worth it,” said one user.

“Of course Trump will pardon her in exchange for denying he is on the Epstein list, everyone knows that! What a fraud he is!” another person commented.

One user reasoned, “No, it's Trump acknowledging that he has the power to pardon Ghislaine Maxwell. He also said he hasn't given it any thought. If she gives information that leads to solid arrests, then & only then should she be pardoned.”

One commenter concluded, “Donald Trump's ‘yes’ to considering a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell means he will—if Todd Blanche succeeds in cutting a deal where Maxwell won't implicate Trump in the Epstein scandal. It doesn't get any simpler.”
