CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA: After an underweight 12-year-old girl was found dead in Pennsylvania, her father and his girlfriend are accused of abducting her and may be charged with murder.

According to Chester County DA, Darrell Hoagland called 911 on May 4 to report that his daughter, Malinda Hoagland, was unconscious.

Malinda Hoagland suffered 'torment that no child should ever have to endure'

According to prosecutors, after first responders rushed Malinda to the hospital, doctors discovered she was emaciated, underweight, and had multiple fractures. Malinda died while undergoing treatment, People reports.

Malinda was taken out of school in late 2023 and "shifted to a home cyber school." Prosecutors claim that when police searched the phones of Rendell and his girlfriend, Cindy Warren, they discovered recordings of Malinda being abused by both defendants over a speaker system and shackled to furniture.

Prosecutors claim that Rendell and Warren also subjected Malinda to "strenuous physical exercise" and occasionally denied her food as a form of punishment.

“Malinda was subjected to evil and torment that no child should ever have to endure,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher L de Barrena-Sarobe said. “I am grateful to every first responder and law enforcement officer who has worked tirelessly on this case. Together we will get justice for Malinda,” Barrena-Sarobe added.

Rendell Hoagland and Warren have been charged with attempted criminal murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and other related charges. According to prosecutors, additional medical tests indicate that both defendants may be charged with murder. It is unclear whether either defendant has retained an attorney or made a public statement. Both accused are being held under a $1 million bond.
