WASHINGTON, DC: A manhunt is in progress in Washington, DC following a tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others wounded early Sunday morning, authorities reported.

The Metropolitan Police Department was dispatched to the vicinity of 7th Street and P Street Northwest around 3 am following distressing reports of gunfire, revealed Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll during a press briefing. This location, situated near the Kennedy Recreation Center in downtown DC, became the scene of a horrifying episode.

Mass shooting victims identified

As per the Gun Violence Archive's standards, any incident involving at least four casualties from gunfire, excluding the perpetrator, qualifies as a mass shooting. In this dire situation, two men lost their lives to the senseless violence. They were later identified as 32-year-old Anthony Brown and 32-year-old Jay Lucks, both succumbing to their injuries at the scene, per CBS.

The identities of the five wounded victims, three men and two women, all adults, have been withheld by the authorities. These individuals were promptly transported to local hospitals for urgent medical attention. Shockingly, one additional victim sought medical treatment independently at a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound.

Police release description of suspect

Despite initial efforts to gather information, details about the incident remain scant. However, law enforcement described the suspect as a Black male with an average build, dressed in a blue shirt and light-colored pants. The assailant was last seen fleeing the scene on foot, heading south on 7th Street.

While the motive behind the shooting is yet to be fully determined, preliminary investigations suggest a deliberate and targeted attack on the victims.

In response to this tragic event, the Metropolitan Police Department has announced a reward of up to $50,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with potential leads or sightings of the suspect to come forward and assist in their efforts to bring justice to the victims and their families.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact the police at 202-727-9099 with any relevant information or sightings of the suspect.
