WASHINGTON, DC: Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio on Thursday, May 28, celebrated his birthday surrounded by administration colleagues, triggering a wave of tributes and birthday wishes across the social media platform X.

The online birthday wishes came from prominent figures, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, music icon Nicki Minaj, Special Assistant to the President Margo Martin, and multiple lawmakers.

White House staff pauses for a birthday tradition

Marco Rubio took a moment to blow out some birthday candles during a brief break from his diplomatic duties.

In a video shared by Margo Martin, Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor, the Secretary of State was surrounded by his colleagues as they sang "Happy Birthday."

When they sang the "dear" part, the moment became slightly funny, just like it always does when people sing to someone at work.

The viral footage offered a nice glimpse into the White House inner circle as staff members paused their busy schedules to celebrate the top diplomat's special day.

Wishes from the administration and pop sensation Nicki Minaj

As part of the widespread social media celebration, numerous political leaders and a global icon took to social media to extend birthday wishes and reflect on Rubio's public service career.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a heartfelt message alongside pictures of the duo, stating, "Happy Birthday to our extraordinary Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, and my dear friend, marcorubio!"

The celebrations even crossed over into pop culture, with music icon Nicki Minaj posting a memorable photo of herself alongside the Secretary, writing, "Standing in the middle of 2 legends. Wishing you a VERY Happy Birthday, Sec Rubio."

Under Secretary of State Jacob S Helberg also joined the chorus by sharing an official State Department clip, adding, "Happy birthday to America’s Greatest Secretary of State, marcorubio!"

US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle also honored him on X, writing, "Happy Birthday to my friend, @SecRubio! Marco is an extraordinary champion of America First values, unwavering in his commitment to bolstering our national security, advancing American energy dominance, and delivering greater prosperity for the American people — in addition to being a great friend to the Hellenic Republic."

Senator Mike Lee decided to take a completely funny route for the occasion, sharing several memes of the Secretary and writing, "Marco Rubio’s birthday is a great day to share your favorite Marco Meme. Marco wears many hats, and does so exceptionally well."

Florida colleagues honor the nation's top diplomat

Several Florida leaders highlighted Rubio's deep connection to his home state. They congratulated him and praised the strong leadership he brings to his job every day.

Representative Maria Elvira Salazar pointed out the pride of his hometown, writing, "Miami is proud to call you one of our own. You are the greatest Secretary of State this country has had in generations, and seeing a son of our city representing America with such strength and conviction has meant so much to our community."

Representative Carlos A Gimenez echoed this sentiment across multiple posts, remarking, "Happy Birthday to my dear friend and America’s top diplomat, Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Marco has never stopped fighting for freedom and democracy."

Congressman Randy Fine also joined the wave of accolades, noting that Rubio is "delivering strong America First leadership on the world stage every single day."
