WASHINGTON, DC, April 14: Marjorie Taylor Greene addressed her past comparison between Donald Trump and Jesus Christ during a CNN interview, after being questioned about the remarks by anchor Kaitlan Collins.
The exchange came amid fresh controversy surrounding Trump’s recent social media posts, including criticism of the pope and an AI-generated image that critics said portrayed him in a Christ-like manner. Greene appeared on CNN’s 'The Source' on Monday, April 13, where the conversation turned to both the posts and her earlier statements.
Past remarks questioned
During the interview, Collins brought up Greene’s previous comparison of Trump to Jesus and played a clip of her remarks. The comparison had drawn attention at the time, particularly among religious and political commentators.
Responding, Greene clarified the context of her statement and distanced herself from any religious equivalence.
“We were talking about people being prosecuted unfairly by weaponization of government, political prosecutions, things such as the political protesters,” Greene said.
“That's what I was referring to there. I wasn't talking, trying to portray [Trump] as Jesus. I think that was completely different,” she added.
Her response came as Collins pressed her on whether the earlier comparison was appropriate, given the sensitivities around religious symbolism and political rhetoric.
Trump posts spark debate
The interview also focused on Trump’s recent social media activity, which has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum. While some allies have defended the president’s style as unfiltered and humorous, others have raised concerns about its tone and implications.
In one post, Trump called the pope “weak” on crime and foreign policy, escalating tensions with the Vatican.

In another post, he shared an AI-generated image that appeared to show him in a white robe healing a man, imagery that many viewers interpreted as resembling Jesus Christ. The post was later deleted after backlash.
Greene was among those who criticized the post, saying, “On Orthodox Easter, President Trump attacked the Pope because the Pope is rightly against Trump’s war in Iran, and then he posted this picture of himself as if he is replacing Jesus.”

“This comes after last week’s post of his evil tirade on Easter and then threatening to kill an entire civilization. I completely denounce this and I’m praying against it!!!”
Trump, however, rejected that interpretation while speaking to reporters, saying he believed the image depicted him as “a doctor” and “a Red Cross worker.”
