NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene ranted against reauthorizing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the federal government of abusing the bill to spy on American citizens without warrant.

The new bill, known as the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act (RISA), has the backing of Speaker Mike Johnson, who described it as a “vital national security tool (providing) robust protections for the fundamental rights of Americans". He also assured that it would “strictly prohibit future abuses,” reported The Washington Times.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Taking to the social media platform on Sunday, April 7, Greene retweeted Rep Thomas Massie, who wrote, "The US government uses the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to spy on Americans without a warrant. This week, the House will vote to require the Feds to get a warrant to snoop on Americans. Sadly this vote is likely to fail..."

Greene continued about the FISA reauthorization in her post, writing, "And they will put pressure on all of us to vote for it by saying 'an unknown number of terrorists are in America, we can’t allow another 9-11!' Yet they do NOTHING to secure the border. If they really cared about our safety, border security would be the most important issue on both sides of the aisle."

"Warrantless spying is wrong," she stated. "And actually they don’t need FISA to go after terrorists who have come across our border because the constitution does not apply to them, they aren’t citizens."

Doubling down on her position opposing the bill, the US Representative for Georgia concluded, "FISA has been abused by our government to spy on hundreds of thousands of Americans, and I don’t trust our government to stop abusing FISA. I’ll go ahead and give you my vote, it’s a NO to FISA reauthorization without warrants."

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Social media users called out MTG in response to her post, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"If Republicans really cared about our safety they'd bring the bipartisan border bill written by Republicans up for a vote. They don't care, just complain," wrote a user.

"YOU have done nothing to secure the border. Do your job, Marge," stated another.

"Crime is down and employment is up. What’s the probl…..ohhhh, that IS the problem," mocked a third.

"Actually, it's you and your party that refused to even consider the strongest bipartisan border security bill ever crafted. You don't want border security you want campaign, talking points," commented a fourth.

"YOU all do NOTHING," slammed a fifth.
