NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is facing the ire of the internet after she took credit for the impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N Mayorkas in a tweet on X.

According to The New York Times, two articles were released on January 28 by House Republicans, charging Mayorkas with refusing to uphold the law and breaching the public trust in his handling of the migration crisis.

What did Marjorie Taylor Greene tweet?

Taking to the social media platform on January 27, Greene wrote, "Tuesday our Homeland Security Committee will be marking up and voting on the articles of impeachment for Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This is happening because I forced a floor vote on my Mayorkas articles of impeachment back in November and Democrats and 8 Republicans voted to move my articles to our Homeland Security Committee giving us jurisdiction."

"I am very proud of all the hard work by Republicans on Homeland and thankful to the leadership of our Chairman Mark Green. Everyone has worked tirelessly investigating every aspect of Biden’s border crisis and Secretary Mayorkas’s violation of his oath of office and his willful and systemic violations of federal immigration law," she continued.

Acknowledging the effort of everyone involved, she states, "This has truly been a team effort. I want to report I am pleased with our collective effort shaping my articles of impeachment to our final version that we will be marking up and voting out of committee on Tuesday. When Republicans work together, we can bring great results for the American people and accountability to those breaking the law."

MTG proceeds to then slam the Biden administration, writing, "Our national security crisis brought upon the American people by the Biden Administration should have never happened and can be fixed easily by passing and signing into law our GREAT border security bill HR2 with strong security measures like ending Catch and Release and brings back Remain in Mexico."

"Joe Biden and the Democrats are lying to the country when they claim their Senate border deal will help the border crisis. This border surrender deal will legalize 5,000/day illegal aliens entering our country, which is 1.8 million per year."

"This is a jobs, amnesty, and voting scheme the Democrats are trying to get passed while sending another $60 billion American taxpayer funded check to Ukraine to defend their border and keep the daily invasion going into ours!"

She concluded by stating, "If Democrats really care about our border security, the integrity of our federal immigration laws, and the security of all Americans, they will vote with us to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas AND sign HR2 into law!!!"

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Netizens were far from pleased with the Georgia Representative, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"While an impeachment vote is a nice gesture it doesn’t do anything. MTG and her “team” had a chance to stop the Biden Administration early last year but they signed off on his budget instead. Now MTG is just trying to save her political career. Too little, too late," stated a user on X.

"Is there anything you don't take credit for ?" jibed another.

A third user noted, "How do articles of impeachment do anything at this point? You all continue to ignore and point fingers, and say impeach, but what does that do at the border? Nothing. Lip service goes nowhere."

"Of course, you all waited for it to be an election year spectacle. Uniparty theatrics," quipped a fourth.

"I'm sorry but it shouldn't have taken that long," wrote a fifth.
