WASHINGTON, DC: Georgia Republican Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene raised a new question on Saturday, December 22, about recent mysterious drone sightings reported across the country.

She questioned why the term "drone" was being used to describe these sightings instead of terms like UFO or UAP.

FBI and Homeland Security address rising drone sightings

Reports of drone sightings began in mid-November, and both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have confirmed that over 5,000 sightings have been recorded on the East Coast according to Newsweek.

Lawmakers have since urged federal agencies to investigate further. National security officials stated that the sightings pose no immediate threats to public safety and have not been linked to foreign interference.

The government added that there is no reason for public alarm, suggesting the drones may be authorized.

White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Monday, "We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircrafts, helicopters, and even stars that were mistakenly reported as drones."

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also noted that drone-detection systems deployed last week found "little to no evidence" of malicious activity despite mounting public concerns.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday it was "nothing nefarious apparently." He also said that there is "no sense of danger."

Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene call for drones to be shot down

President-elect Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene took strong positions on how the drones should be handled.

Trump posted this on Truth Social on December, 14: "Mystery Drone Sightings all over the country. Can this really be happening without our government's knowledge. I don't think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!! DJT."

Greene echoed similar sentiments, writing in another Truth Social post on Monday, "I'll shoot the drones down myself along with every other red blooded freedom loving American."

Both Greene and Trump have questioned the official explanations given by government agencies regarding the drone sightings.

Internet says Marjorie Taylor Greene has surpassed her 'level of stupidity'

On Saturday, Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X, formerly Twitter, to raise questions about the language used to describe the drones.

"Why are they calling them drones? For a long time it was UFO [unidentified flying object], then it became UAP [unidentified aerial phenomenon]." she wrote.

"Ever since these things started being seen in NJ, the term used has been 'drone.' Who made that the official term and why? That seems to convey knowing what they are versus using an acronym starting with a 'U' that stands for unidentified," Greene added to the post.

Her post prompted reactions online, with many users criticizing her statement.

One person responded, "You have surpassed yourself. You have reached a new level of stupidity, real mind numbing stupidity."

Another wrote, "Because that’s literally what they are! How are you this stupid?"

One comment read, "Wow you are dumber than a plastic Home Depot bucket full of decorative landscaping rocks," while another tried to clarify, "Easy answer: UFO implies alien. Drone implies man made. It's all about narrative manipulation."

Some responses mocked Greene, with one user stating, "MTG proving again that being a politician is so easy even a cavewoman can do it." Another asked, "You can't be serious, right??"
