WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene sparked widespread criticism on social media platforms for wearing a MAGA hat and a shirt with slain Georgia nursing student Laken Riley's name inscribed on it during President Joe Biden's State of the Union (SOTU) address.

Greene also faced significant trolling recently on X (formerly Twitter) after announcing her candidacy for re-election as the representative of Northwest Georgia in the Capitol on March 4.

Additionally, she was also criticized for slamming mainstream media (MSM) and alleging that it was losing viewership due to broadcasting propaganda.

According to HuffPost, Marjorie Taylor Greene attended President Joe Biden's State of the Union address at the White House. However, her choice of clothing stirred up controversy among social media users.

HuffPost reported that Greene wore a red 'Make America Great Again (MAGA)' hat as President Biden entered the House chamber to deliver his address. Additionally, she sported a shirt with Laken Riley's name on it.

Riley's name on Greene's shirt seemed to reference a bill named after her, passed by the House earlier. Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University, was tragically kidnapped and killed while jogging at the University of Georgia.

According to the Washington Post, Riley was abducted by Joe Ibarra, an individual who authorities say crossed the US border illegally in 2022. Riley suffered fatal blunt-force trauma to the head, and Ibarra, who migrated from Venezuela, was arrested in January on murder and assault charges.

The bill named after Riley requires federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants who commit theft or burglary, as per HuffPost.

Social media users criticized Greene for using Riley's name and incorporating it into her attire to attract attention to herself. Moreover, House rules prohibit members from wearing non-religious headwear or hats when the House is in session.

Internet users call Marjorie Taylor Greene a 'clown'

The internet took to X to express their views on the issue and brutally slammed Greene for mentioning Riley's name on her shirt. One social media user wrote, "Such a disgusting human."

Another said, "The family didn’t want to be used as political pawns but that never stopped Marge."

Another user commented, "And the exploitation of this young womans name and memory who was just murdered. Did she ask her family if this is okay, or does she even care?"

Another user commented, "Such a clown 🤡"
