Mark Hamill calls Donald Trump 'real evil' at DNC, warns voters against 'going to the orange side'
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Hollywood actor Mark Hamill took a jibe at GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump as he told voters 'don’t go to the orange side' as he made an appearance at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Monday, August 19.
The convention kicked off on Monday with President Joe Biden speaking and was joined in by former Secretary of State and former Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton; Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a barn burner, according to the New York Times.
Mark Hamill slams Trump during DNC
Hamill trolled Trump as he stood alongside Jamie Harrison, chair of the DNC, when the latter asked the Star Wars actor, "We’ve got an important election coming up in November, have you got a message for everybody out there."
Hamill replied, "In the movies, I fought against make-believe evil. But we’re at a time in history where we’re fighting against real evil. So I beg you, please don’t go to the orange side."

On the first day of the DNC, Trump's name was uttered more than 150 times and was frequently featured in video packages. The two most prominent attacks on Trump involved abortion and the coronavirus.
Abortion bans are a major liability for the GOP at the moment and Trump has sought to emphasize states’ rights. The pandemic was a more unexpected topic but also one with a personal touch. Speakers talked about Trump’s lack of leadership, his efforts to downplay the threat, and his various conspiracy theories.
Rep Robert Garcia talked about the deaths of his health-care-worker mother and stepfather and said, "When Donald Trump and his MAGA extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene downplayed the horror of the pandemic, it should make us all furious."
Joe Biden's emotional speech at DNC
Joe Biden gave a forceful and emotional speech to close out night one of the Democratic National Convention as he pointed to some of the darkest moments in Trump's presidency.
He added that it was a 'battle for the soul of the nation', and that the people must vote for Kamala Harris to preserve democracy. He said, "I stand before you now on this August night to report that democracy has prevailed. Democracy has delivered. And now democracy must be preserved."
He also said he wasn’t angry at those who pushed him to step aside. He stated, "I love the job, but I love my country more. All this talk about how I’m angry at all those people who said I should step down. That’s not true."
