WASHINGTON, DC: Mark Ruffalo has criticized President Donald Trump, warning that the United States is facing an “oligarchy” that must be challenged.

He also voiced alarm over escalating tensions with Iran and backed George Clooney in his criticism of the administration.

Mark Ruffalo warns US faces ‘oligarchy’

Ruffalo said, “This is a moment where we have to fight an oligarchy that is in full control of our Congress and our presidency. The only way we’re gonna win is if we fight. The only way we can fight is by doing it together. Every industry in the US is under attack.”

His remarks came as he amplified criticism of Trump’s leadership during a volatile geopolitical moment, particularly in the Middle East.

Raises alarm over Iran, fears escalation

The actor had earlier expressed concern over the possibility of a wider conflict involving Iran, warning about the risk to millions of civilians. Responding to a viral post, Ruffalo criticised global leadership and the lack of consequences for ongoing violence.

“This is something I have been worrying a lot about. We have psychopaths waging this war," he wrote.

"This has got to stop. As the citizens of the world we have to stop this. They cannot be allowed to carry out a nuclear strike on the millions of innocent people of Iran. These are our fellow human beings, regardless of their leaders. This is insanity,” he added.

Mark Ruffalo backs George Clooney amid Trump row

Ruffalo also publicly supported Clooney after the latter called Trump’s remarks on Iran “war crime” territory during an event for the Clooney Foundation for Justice in Italy.

Clooney said, “Some say Donald Trump is fine. But if anyone says he wants to end a civilization, that’s a war crime. You can still support the conservative point of view, but there must be a line of decency, and we must not cross it.”

The White House responded sharply to Clooney’s comments, prompting a back-and-forth exchange. Ruffalo’s support further amplified criticism from Hollywood, where several prominent voices have spoken out against the administration’s approach.

The actor’s statements underscore growing concern among public figures over global conflict and US leadership, with Ruffalo framing the moment as one requiring collective action.
