CLEVELAND, OHIO: A mass murderer from Ohio approached law enforcement, claiming to have killed five members of his family. But the 41-year-old wasn't taken seriously at first with police officials thinking that he was either joking or suffering from a mental illness.
Muniz allegedly shot the victims in different rooms at a home in Mack Court, in Cleveland, at approximately 7.10 pm on January 13, 2023.
Muniz was charged in Cuyahoga County with multiple counts of aggravated murder as well as attempted murder of a fifth victim, who was still alive when police found him but died the day after the shooting.
The moment Muniz approached a passing police car in Cleveland's Brooklyn Centre was captured on a recently released police bodycam footage.
Martin Muniz claimed doing 'something bad'
Peering through the police car window, Muniz is seen reassuring them with a calm "I did something bad" and "I'm serious, I'm not crazy, you can go to the address, but I want you to handcuff me first."
Eventually, the police pulled over and reported their doubts about his claims to dispatch. "He said he killed five people'," an officer stated indifferently.
Simultaneously, Lourdes Martinez, Muniz's ex-girlfriend, called dispatch, claiming he had called her and admitted to "killing his whole family."
"He said he killed his sister, her father, his sister's brother-in-law, and two kids," Martinez said, "His mother is on the way now. Do you think he was serious?" the doubtful dispatcher questioned.
"He is bipolar and said he has a gun and still has two bullets in it," she responded.
Janel Gabriel, a member of Muniz's extended family, called 911 again a short while later after learning that Muniz killed everyone in the family's Mack Court home. When the police got to the Mack Court house, they discovered Muniz's mother was waiting outside.
As the police arrived, she said, "My daughter lives here. I got a call from two cousins [to say] my son murdered them all. I don't know I just got here, and I don't trust him. I was afraid. I was waiting for you guys."
Cops found three dead bodies
When the police eventually entered the property, they found a horrifying scene. 'Oh s**t, someone's on the bed' one officer was heard saying.
"Someone's moving too," another officer said. "Yo, its real get EMS rolling."
The dead bodies of Angelic Gonzalez, 34, her father Miguel Gonzalez, 69, and her 16-year-old son Jayden Baez were discovered by officers.
Angelic Boothe's husband, Anthony, was discovered alive despite severe injuries. His injuries later claimed his life in the hospital.

Despite being shot in the neck, Boothe's eight-year-old daughter managed to survive. Days before the shooting, a strange Facebook post by Muniz suggested premeditation, according to Daily Mail.
"Nothing the end is near," he wrote.
In May 2023, Muniz, who is currently incarcerated, admitted to a murder that went unsolved ten years ago. In October 2013, he admitted to killing 45-year-old Jaime Molina in North Camden, New Jersey.
Muniz's trial is scheduled for later this year, and he is being held on a $5 million bond.
