BRONX, NEW YORK: NYPD is looking for a teenager they believe is responsible for a deadly shooting on the subway. The shooting occurred over a gang dispute, killing one person who wasn't involved and hurting others, Fox News reports. 

During rush hour on February 12, a fight erupted at Mount Eden station in The Bronx when the suspect Maurice Stewart, 15, fired shots around killing a person. Cops identified the victim as Obed Beltran-Sanchez, 34 years old, who died in the hospital.

Others hurt in the shooting include a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, a 29-year-old woman, and two men aged 71 and 28.

What happened at the Mount Eden Station?

At least 10 shots were fired at the Mount Eden Avenue station after a brawl broke out between two groups of teenagers aboard a northbound 4 train around 4.40 pm, the New York Post reports. Eyewitnesses described the chaos that broke out at the subway station in the Bronx. As the train pulled into the station and the doors opened, at least one person pulled out a gun and began shooting.

NYPD launches manhunt for Maurice Steward  

NYPD shared a photo of Maurice Steward, saying he was involved in the fatal shooting on a #4 train at Mount Eden station in the Bronx.

Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry wrote on social media, "Thou shalt not kill - please take a look at this flyer. On Monday, February 12, during rush hour, this person opened fire on the subway killing a New Yorker, We need your assistance. Help us keep our transit system safe"

Steward has been accused of murder and five counts of attempted murder.



 

Woman called 911 after Bronx subway station shooting

An unidentified woman called 911 from her apartment nearby after the deadly shooting at the subway. She reported seeing three teenage boys on the train tracks after hearing over 10 gunshots, the New York Post reports.

She told cops, "Two of the kids were arguing and one of them took off. The other two just stood there. One of the guys was pacing back and forth and the other guy just sat down."

As passengers exited the train, they accused the group and told them to leave the tracks.

Who was Obed Beltran-Sanchez?

Obed Beltrean-Sanchez, 34, the victim of the subway station shooting, was struck by a single bullet in the chest and succumbed to his injuries, Jorge Islas, Consul General of Mexico in New York said, according to abc7

Islas said, "And with that, that bullet, life on a dream, someone who was willing to do something important for his family." He also added that Beltran-Sanchez's wife and two young daughters were left behind following his death in the Bronx subway station shooting.

It is believed that Obed migrated from Mexico, crossing the border from Canada in search of construction work as a day laborer. Islas further spoke about Beltran-Sanchez's dedication to hard work and his aspiration to build a home in New York, stating, "He can buy a little house for his family."

Islas concluded, "And he was willing to work hard in American New York, and over time, retire and go back to Mexico to work on Puebla and eventually live in the house that he was willing to build."
