Megan Thee Stallion opens up about Klay Thompson split, reveals she’s ‘in shock still’

LOS ANGELES,CALIFORNIA: Megan Thee Stallion is opening up about her painful split from NBA star Klay Thompson and explaining why she is not looking for another serious relationship anytime soon.

In a new cover story interview for Marie Claire, the Grammy-winning rapper reflected on the ‘abrupt’ end of their relationship and the emotional toll it took on her.

Megan said she is still processing the breakup while learning to trust herself and her instincts again.

Megan, said she is “not pretending I’m 100 percent okay” after her spring split from Thompson. The rapper was first linked to the ‘Miami Heat’ star in summer 2025, and the pair made their red carpet debut that July.

Their relationship ended in April 2026, when Megan accused Thompson of infidelity in a post shared to her Instagram Stories.

“I ain’t never been through nothing like that in my whole life,” Megan explained while adding, “I’ve never, ever, ever been in a relationship like that, ever. So I’m definitely not worried about another one for a long time.”

Describing the breakup, she said, “It was so abrupt. I’m in shock still.” Megan, whose birth name is Megan Pete, also explained why she feels better after leaving the relationship. “When something is meant for you, it’s gonna be easy,” she said. “It’s gonna be right. It’s not gonna feel like a panic all the time.”

“I feel like that’s what I was in, constantly on edge,” Megan continued. “My nervous system needed to calm down. I feel like I was in a panic 24/7. I’m still not eating all the way right. I’m feeling all the feelings. I’m not trying to take no shortcuts,” she added.

The rapper said the experience also taught her to trust her instincts. “Sometimes I be knowing in my gut and in my heart, then you give so much benefit of the doubt,” she said. “No, the gut is always right. Listen.”

Megan Thee Stallion reveals she is finding herself again

In her September cover story interview, Megan described the end of her relationship with Thompson as “very rough.”

However, she also said, “What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there. God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you.”

Megan said she had spent much of her relationship with Thompson “trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong” and attempting to fit herself “into someone else’s life.”

“I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” she said.

“I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me. I cannot not go to work. I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion…You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period,” the rapper added.

She added that while she is “trying my best,” the experience felt as though she had gone through the washing machine and dryer “with tins, shovels and a cactus.”

Megan said she hopes her next relationship will involve someone who understands her busy life and career. She does not want to stay home “24/7” and expressed interest in having a more balanced partnership with her next
