LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s return to the UK with their children has offered a glimpse into their family life while also prompting renewed discussion about their status as non-working royals.
As the couple settles into their new arrangement, sources close to them have pushed back against the description of their position as being similar to that of private citizens.

Meghan shared a 35-second video on Instagram on Sunday, September 13, showing moments from the family’s return to England. The clip opens with the couple walking hand in hand outdoors before showing what appears to be their daughter Princess Lilibet’s feet warming by a fireplace.
Meghan is also seen wearing wellies and splashing through a muddy puddle. The montage continues with Lilibet riding a bicycle as her older brother Prince Archie runs alongside her.
Archie can be heard cheering, “Go! Go!” with his pronunciation appearing to carry a distinctly British accent. Wham!’s 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' plays as the video moves to more outdoor family moments, including Harry, Archie, and Lilibet fishing together on a boat.
A British flag and red heart emojis remain at the top of the screen throughout. Harry and Meghan arrived in the UK on August 26, shortly after PEOPLE revealed that they were relocating to his home country for an extended period.
The couple made the move with Archie, Lilibet, and their dogs, Pula and Mia. A source previously said the family spent their final weekend before leaving California with close friends, including friends of their children and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that settling the children “has been, and remains, their focus,” adding that everything else would fall into place when the time was right. “There is a lot to do. They have just moved halfway across the world, and it’s been really busy getting the kids settled,” the insider said.
The family plans to use a non-royal UK residence as their home base, with Archie and Lilibet attending school in Britain, while maintaining their Montecito home. The couple had been planning the move for some time, though leaving California was emotional.
A Montecito insider said Meghan felt fortunate to give the children the opportunity to experience both worlds, while Harry wanted them to understand where he grew up and where their family comes from.
The discussion over their status intensified after King Charles issued guidance on September 7 through Lord Chamberlain Lord Benyon. The letter stated that Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the royal family and that their position, including financial independence and privacy, would be respected.
It described their position as “akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.” Sources close to the couple rejected the idea that they could live as ordinary private individuals. “They are public figures,” one source said.
