WASHINGTON, DC: Megyn Kelly reignited a long-standing debate by accusing Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour of political bias.

The political commentator went on a tirade about the fashion magazine's apparent refusal to feature former First Lady Melania Trump on its cover on Monday, January 20, the day of Donald Trump's second inauguration.

Megyn Kelly slams Anna Wintour for not putting 'elegant and classy' Melania Trump on Vogue's cover

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration, Megyn Kelly wrote, "Look at Melania Trump. The most elegant, stylish, beautiful First Lady ever."

"Will Vogue put her on the cover as they did Jill Biden and [Michelle] Obama? Of course not, because Anna Wintour hates Republicans so much she cannot stomach the thought of celebrating this perfect picture of class," the former Fox News host claimed.

Her post included a clip of the first couple's visit to the St John's Church in Washington, DC, on the morning of the inauguration.

In a subsequent post, Kelly once again gushed over the first lady's outfit from the inauguration day, describing her as "literally perfect."

Melania Trump called Vogue 'biased' over decision not to put her on cover

The absence of Melania Trump from Vogue during Donald Trump’s presidency has been a contentious topic since 2016.

Unlike her predecessors Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, who graced the magazine’s cover multiple times, Melania’s only appearance came in 2005, years before her tenure as first lady.

That cover marked her as a newlywed after her marriage to the POTUS, long before his political career took center stage.

Melania herself addressed the issue during a 2022 interview with Fox News, calling the magazine "biased."

As per Daily Mail, she stated, "They have likes and dislikes and it's so obvious, and I think American people and everyone sees it. It was their decision, and I have much more important things to do in the White House than being on the cover of Vogue."

Melania Trump's fashion as first lady

Nevertheless, Melania Trump has received widespread praise for her impeccable sense of style.

Her inauguration ensemble, a navy blue silk wool coat and skirt by New York-based designer Adam Lippes, paired with a matching hat by milliner Eric Javits, was widely lauded as a modern display of elegance.

"The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy, and today we had the honor to dress our First Lady, Mrs Melania Trump," Lippes said in a statement. "Mrs Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen, and I take great pride in showing such work to the world."

However, her fashion journey during her time as first lady was far from seamless.

Many prominent American designers refused to dress her due to her husband’s polarizing politics.

As a result, Melania often turned to European fashion houses, with her stylist, Herve Pierre, frequently purchasing outfits from retail stores rather than working with designers directly.

"I don’t really do that for the good reason that the fashion industry is not very welcoming [of Trump]. That’s no secret," Pierre told WWD. "Some are very open-minded and would be able to do something special. But a lot of people are not."
