WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NEW YORK: Podcast host Megyn Kelly took aim at comedian Jimmy Kimmel for what she called “disgusting” comments about Prime Video’s ‘Melania’ documentary during the 98th Academy Awards on Monday, March 16.
Speaking on an episode of ‘The Megyn Kelly Show,’ the host criticized Kimmel for mocking a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump and for making further jabs at President Donald Trump. Kelly also condemned remarks made by Oscars host Conan O’Brien regarding Turning Point USA and the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Megyn Kelly criticizes Jimmy Kimmel over ‘Melania’ documentary joke
Kelly called out Kimmel for remarks he made about the documentary while presenting the Best Documentary Feature category at the Oscars. “OK, so he’s got to slam the first lady – nice,” Kelly said.
She continued, “By the way, her documentary has done very, very well. It’s pulled in tens of millions of dollars, way more than any documentary of its kind.”
She added that Kimmel could not resist targeting the first lady. “He’s incapable of even complimenting the first lady or just staying away from her. He can’t help himself and got a big laugh from the audience. It’s disgusting.”
While introducing the documentary category, Kimmel also made a jab about Trump, “Oh man, is he going to be mad his wife wasn’t nominated for this.”
He then joked about countries where leaders do not allow free speech criticizing those in power, listing examples including North Korea and CBS.
Kimmel stated, “Fortunately for all of us, there is an international community of filmmakers dedicated to telling the truth. And there are also documentaries where you walk around the White House trying on shoes.”
There has long been tension between Kimmel and Trump. Although the host has frequently targeted the president, last year he was forced into a hiatus on ABC after a joke made following Kirk’s assassination.
The backlash was driven largely by social media posts from Trump urging that Kimmel be pulled from the air. Since returning, Kimmel has continued to criticize the president.
Megyn Kelly on Conan O’Brien's comments over Charlie Kirk and TPUSA
Kelly also criticized O’Brien for remarks he made during the Oscars about TPUSA. She said, “O’Brien decided to take a shot at the organization of our dead friend Charlie Kirk.”
According to Kelly, the group is currently fighting to save the organization and is “doing everything they can.” Kelly said O’Brien mocked the TPUSA ‘All-American Halftime Show,’ which was offered as alternate programming because Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny had made “so many anti-USA statements” and was “obviously the opposite of a patriot.”
During the Oscars, O’Brien joked, “I should warn you, tonight could get political, okay? And if that makes you uncomfortable, there’s an alternate Oscars being hosted by Kid Rock. Yeah, it’s at the Dave and Busters down the street. A lot of tickets for that.”
The TPUSA's halftime show faced technical setbacks and controversies and was ultimately watched by only a small percentage of the 4.1 billion viewers who saw Bad Bunny’s official Super Bowl concert.
Kelly defended the organization, saying, “Turning Point doesn’t have the same money that the Hollywood crowd has, so they don’t have quite the glitz and the glamour for their alternate halftime show. Though they put on an amazing show that actually set records, which you would know, Conan, if you would take one step out of your white-privilege, woke Hollywood bubble.”
She ended her criticism by saying, “Conan, Jimmy: predictable.”
