HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS: A woman who was accused of fatally shooting her nephew-in-law following a dispute has had her bond set at $100,000 during her first court appearance.
She is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, April 8th as per ABC 13.
Later, it has been confirmed that the woman is the wife of Harris County Justice of the Peace Bob Wolfe.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that Mei Huang Wolfe, aged 48, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the lethal shooting, which transpired shortly before 9.30 pm on Thursday, April 4.
What happened to James Wolfe II?
Deputies were dispatched to the 24300 block of Tesino River Circle in response to a call from Mei's husband, Judge Wolfe, and discovered a man in his 20s who had been shot.
The victim was later identified as 40-year-old James Wolfe II who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff indicated that the shooting arose from a disturbance within the household, involving four adults: a husband, a wife, the wife’s daughter, and a nephew from the husband's side of the family.
While investigations are ongoing, it appears that the nephew, who came to Houston to stay with his relatives, may have been in a situation where the female homeowner no longer felt his presence was welcome, resulting in a confrontation.
The female homeowner, identified as Mei Huang Wolfe, reportedly retrieved a pistol and fatally shot her nephew. She was apprehended at the scene and subsequently charged.
Anyone with relevant information about the shooting is urged to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-TIPS.
What did police report after the shooting?
After arresting Mei, Sheriff Gonzalez assured that there was no apparent threat to the wider community, and the tragic incident seems to have been confined to the residence.
Gonzalez mentioned that the nephew, a recent college graduate who had been traveling, was currently residing at his aunt and uncle's residence. He speculated that Mei Wolfe might have felt that her nephew was no longer welcome there, leading to the altercation.
"Very tragic situation. I understand the young man was in his early 20s. Our condolences go out to the extended family and everybody impacted by this loss," Gonzalez expressed.
"We've seen a lot of family and intimate partner violence happening recently. I think yesterday we had two shootings related to -- in those situations, were husband and wife -- but sometimes it extends beyond that to other family members. In this case, again, a female homeowner and her nephew. A very tragic situation," Gonzalez concluded as ABC 13 reported.
