WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump made a surprise appearance at Children’s National Hospital on Thursday, July 3, charming young patients and staff alike with her elegant summer style and warm interactions.

Dressed in one of the season’s top trends, a chic polka dot blouse, she participated in Fourth of July-themed activities, handed out gifts, and even extended an invitation to the White House’s 250 Independence Day celebration next year.

The visit coincided with mounting anticipation over President Donald Trump’s proposed tax-and-spending bill in the House and served as a reminder of the first lady’s continued commitment to traditional first lady roles.

She styled her brunette locks in soft waves with a center part, complemented by smoky eye makeup and glossy mauve lips, further elevating the ensemble without overpowering it.

With her latest appearance, Trump joined the ranks of celebrities embracing the polka dot craze. Just weeks earlier, Hailey Bieber sported spotted capris in NYC, and Sarah Jessica Parker donned a powder-blue polka dot skirt suit on morning television.

From runways to red carpets, the pattern has resurged, and Trump’s refined take offered a fresh, First Lady spin.

During her visit, Melania Trump spent time with 10 patients in the hospital’s Garden Room. She joined them for arts and crafts, painting rocks, and decorating cups with Fourth of July themes. Each child received a teddy bear, books, and blankets.

She strolled through the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden with the hospital’s president and CEO, Michelle Riley-Brown, placing patriotic wind spinners and decorations in the flower beds. At one point, Trump quizzed the children about their favorite singers, sports, and foods.

When one child named Taylor Swift as the best singer, the first lady replied, “She’s very talented,” diplomatically sidestepping past political tensions between Swift and her husband.

Later, Trump visited several patients in the transplant and cardiac units, even gifting the hospital a new yellow tea rose named “Eternal Flame.”

The first lady kept the mood upbeat throughout the visit, even cracking a joke when asked whether she played golf. “No, I don’t play golf,” she laughed, adding that it was something her husband loved to do.

Before wrapping up the day, Trump extended a heartfelt invitation to the children, saying, “It’s a very special day. So we will have a big party at the White House,  when you feel better, maybe next year, you come over and we’ll celebrate together.”
