LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Obamas are fine! Former first lady Michelle Obama has once again addressed speculation, firmly dismissing rumors that her marriage to Barack Obama is in trouble.

Calling the claims fake, she described the speculation as “ridiculous” during her appearance on the NPR podcast 'Wild Card with Rachel Martin' on June 26.

Rumors about the Obamas’ marriage began circulating on social media in early March, sparked by Michelle’s absence from high-profile events such as Donald Trump’s inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral. However, Michelle made it clear that their marital stability is not defined by public appearances or social media presence.

Michelle Obama strongly denies divorce rumors swirling around her marriage to Barack

Michelle Obama strongly rejected rumors that her marriage to Barack Obama is on the rocks. Speaking on the NPR podcast 'Wild Card,' Obama expressed her frustration with how people often overanalyze her personal decisions, especially those related to her relationship.

“The fact that people don’t see me out on a date with my husband suddenly sparks talk of a breakup,” she said at the 9:34 mark.

When host Rachel Martin joked, “It’s like the apocalypse!” Michelle responded with equal candor: “It’s like the apocalypse. It’s like, OK, so we don’t Instagram every minute of our lives. We are 60. We’re 60 y’all. You just are not gonna know what we’re doing every minute of the day, you know?”

Michelle Obama reveals why she didn’t attend Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration

Later in the 'Wild Card' podcast conversation, Michelle Obama opened up about her decision to skip Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025 — a choice that left Barack Obama attending alone.

She explained that the decision was part of a broader shift in how she’s approaching this stage of her life, prioritizing her values and boundaries over external expectations.

“One of the major decisions I made this year [was] to stay put and not attend inaugurations and all the things that I’m supposed to,” she said. “That was a part of me using my ambition to say, ‘Let me define what I want to do, apart from what I’m supposed to do, what the world expects of me.’”

Michelle admitted the choice wasn’t easy: “I had to sit in it and own it. But I didn’t regret it, you know? It’s my life now, and I can say that, now.”

She added with a laugh, “But we’ll see. Maybe next year we sit down and I’ll go, ‘You know, Rachel, I went a little too far.’”
