WASHINGTON, DC: Melania Trump is poised to make history as she prepares preside over the United Nations Security Council, delivering a landmark speech on promoting peace through education.

The address will be unprecedented, as never before has a first lady from any country, and never before has a sitting US first lady, taken the helm of the Security Council as its members tackle issues of education, technology, and global security.

US takes Security Council lead to highlight education’s role in global peace

According to a report shared on X, it has been announced that Melania Trump will preside over the United Nations Security Council at UN headquarters in Manhattan.



The post stated, “First Lady Melania Trump will preside over the U.N. Security Council on Monday, March 2, 2026, calling for peace through education.” It added, “First Lady Melania Trump is set to make history at the United Nations, taking the gavel as the United States assumes the Security Council Presidency to emphasize education’s role in advancing tolerance and world peace. ”

The upcoming session, titled “Children, Technology, and Education in Conflict,” scheduled for 3.00 pm ET, will be historic: it is the first time a US first lady has presided over the 15-member council, which includes five permanent members, the United States, China, France, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom, and 10 non-permanent members elected for two-year terms: Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Greece, Latvia, Liberia, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia. It also marks the kickoff of the US’ latest term as Security Council president.

"The first lady is reinventing her role and this marks just another groundbreaking achievement for her," a source told Fox News Digital. "It is the first time in history a first lady will address the security council, keeping to her mission of empowering the next generation with education and technology."

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz comments on the upcoming US Presidency of the Security Council

The meeting on March 2 will include the US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, other Security Council members, and international participants. Waltz shared on social media: “We are thrilled to have @Flotus gavel in the US Presidency of the Security Council.”



Also, Waltz told Fox News Digital that it is "fitting that the first lady, a passionate and tireless advocate for children, will preside over the first day of America’s presidency of the Security Council."

"Her message of helping the helpless through education and technology fits exactly with our mission at the UN, to achieve meaningful and lasting peace," Waltz continued. "As a green beret and now diplomat, I have seen firsthand that peace prevails where children are taught and not terrorized."
