NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: An emotionally turmoiled father, Melvin McClinton Sr, 39, shot his 3-year-old child dead before ending his own life.

Police found him with a gunshot wound to the head in the driveway, as per Fox News.

This happened because Melvin McClinton Sr was very upset with the death of his older son, Melvin McClinton Jr.

Melvin McClinton Jr, 18, was shot and killed on February 5 on 42nd Street in Kenner.

After the tragic incident, Melvin McClinton Sr's brother, Thalmus Williams, expressed what emotions the father experienced following his elder son's death.

What did the police report?

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley, speaking at a press conference on Thursday, February 29, said that officers arrived at the scene and found Melvin McClinton Sr dead.

They then went inside the house and discovered a 3-year-old child in a bedroom, dead from a gunshot wound.

Conley described the situation as a tragedy, stating that it was an emotional scene for the family and the neighbors who knew the child.

He mentioned that it would be a moment the neighborhood would never forget.

According to a report released by Kenner Police, detectives found out that McClinton Sr had a physical altercation with the child's mother.

He then armed himself with a gun, shot the child, and then shot himself outside.

Conley explained that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over how the father disciplined the child.

The toddler was identified as Carmelo McClinton by the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.

Family members mentioned that McClinton Sr had been struggling emotionally and mentally since the death of his son.

Jarrone Crimmins, 19, from Kenner, was arrested and is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection to Melvin McClinton Jr’s death.

A few hours before the tragic shootings, Crimmins appeared in Jefferson Parish Magistrate Court for a preliminary hearing in connection with a second-degree murder case.
