Michael Chidozie: Houston bodybuilder and father of 2 dies after wife shoots him 4 times in self-defense
HOUSTON, TEXAS: Michael Chidozie, a 26-year-old bodybuilder and father of two, passed away weeks after being shot by his wife in their Houston home.
Keaiirra Shavoiyae Chidozie, 28, allegedly fired four shots at her husband during an argument on March 21, leaving him critically injured.
Following the shooting, Michael was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital with severe gunshot wounds, while Keaiirra was found in a state of panic, clutching their two young children, aged three and two. Despite medical efforts and prayers from family, Michael's condition worsened due to a devastating spinal injury, and he succumbed to complications 18 days later.
Keaiirra Chidozie's claims of self-defense under scrutiny
Initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Keaiirra's legal situation has not changed following Michael's death. She claimed self-defense, alleging that she feared for her life when Michael followed her into their bedroom during the altercation. The details of the argument remain unclear.
According to reports, the shooting occurred after an argument erupted elsewhere in the house, leading Keaiirra to retrieve a pistol from the bedroom and shoot Michael multiple times. Police discovered the victim lying wounded on the bedroom floor, having sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, chest, and torso, reported Daily Mail.
Friends and witnesses reacted to shooting
Witnesses alerted authorities after spotting Keaiirra frantically seeking help in a nearby parking lot with the children. Friends of the couple expressed shock, stating that they had never witnessed any violence between them.
As the family grapples with grief, efforts are underway to raise funds to fulfill Michael's wish of being laid to rest in Nigeria. "His passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He was a devoted father, a cherished son, and a dear friend to many," the Chidozie family said.
"Chidozie's kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him." Keaiirra, released on bail, awaits her court appearance scheduled for May 23.
