WASHINGTON, DC: Iconic actor Michael Douglas has stepped forward as a vocal advocate for President Joe Biden, insisting that the POTUS remains mentally sharp and is more than capable of securing a second term in office.

In another turn of events, Douglas' fans were left pleasantly surprised after it was revealed that he shares a distant familial connection with none other than 'Black Widow' star Scarlett Johansson.

The revelation came from 'Finding Your Roots' host Henry Louis Gates Jr, who announced that Johansson is a "DNA cousin" of Douglas, adding an intriguing twist to the actor's family tree.

Michael Douglas vouches for Joe Biden in recent interview

According to Mediaite, Douglas came to President Biden's defense against critics during a CNN interview.

Speaking with CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria, Douglas dismissed concerns about Biden's age, describing him as "sharp as a tack".

He referred to Biden's cabinet members, who he believes would happily serve under him again, unlike former President Trump's cabinet members, who Douglas noted, wouldn't want to work with him again.

During the CNN interview, Zakaria asked Douglas "So you and Biden are about the same age. Are you one of those people who wished he had, bowed out and let the field choose somebody else? How do you think about that?"

Douglas defended Biden's mental ability to serve another term, stating, "He’s fine. We all have an issue with memories as we get older, we forget names. He’s overcome a stutter in his life. But let’s just say that his entire cabinet, including his vice president, everybody in his cabinet would be more than happy to work with him again in the next term."

"I cannot say that about the other candidate running because nobody in his cabinet from 2016 wants to be involved with him," he added.

Internet reacts to Michael Douglas' Biden defense

Many people online seemed divided over Michael Douglas' comments about Joe Biden.

A reader online wrote, "If Biden were in a coma, he's still light years better than Trump."

Another user wrote, "Trump is less than four years younger than President Biden. Trump is morbidly obese with a famously poor diet, he clearly has mental issues more serious than President Biden, and oh yeah, he's a narcissistic sociopath with such serious daddy-approval issues as to make him dangerous when he has power. Biden is a fundamentally good man, trump is not. There is no question whatsoever when it comes to who should lead this country. Biden belongs in the WH. Trump belongs in jail."

A user commented, "The irony is that criticism of Biden's mental acuity are coming from mentally damaged people."

Another user commented, "Trump can't even stay awake during his own trial and thinks his gag order prevents him from testifying."

A user stated, "Sleepy Don is the one in a cognitive nosedive. Right before our eyes."

However, some users criticized Biden.

One user said, " Biden is about as sharp as a used tennis ball."

Another said, "Rusted and bent."

One comment read, "Pass. I don't care about the opinion of a washed-up liberal actor. Can't even remember the last time he put out a decent film."

Another said, "Imagine working in the entertainment industry and going out of your way to make half the country hate you. Real smart, Hollywood!"

One user remarked, "Yikes. Our definitions of "sharp as a tech" are widly different."
