CHICAGO, WHEATON: Michael Freund, a resident of Chicago, shot and killed Dexter Perkins during a dispute over a pizza and bar bill at Rosie O’Reilly’s on 0N131 Gary Avenue.

What transpired at the restaurant?
According to DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, the murder occurred at approximately 8.40 am on Friday at Rosie O’Reilly’s in Wheaton, situated about 30 miles west of Chicago.
Detectives revealed that an altercation unfolded between Perkins, the accused, and two other men over the bar and pizza tab.
Following a brief scuffle between Perkins and one of the other men on the front porch, Freund, 49, allegedly brandished a 9mm Glock handgun and fired two warning shots.
Perkins then approached one of the other men, while Freund, positioned on the opposite side of a wooden railing, discharged his weapon again, striking Perkins in the torso and face.
Freund reportedly fired the Glock a total of 11 times, and proceeded to walk to his truck and stow the gun in the center console.
Deputies apprehended him and prosecutors subsequently charged Freund with first-degree murder.
Cops dismayed at 'horibble' violence over holidays
Police indicated that Perkins was not acquainted with Freund or any of the other individuals involved in the altercation.
DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick expressed his dismay, stating, “It’s horrible to see this type of violence occur during the holiday season.”
DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin characterized the shooting as a senseless act of violence and offered heartfelt condolences to Dexter's family and friends.
Berlin asserted, “For this senseless act of violence that resulted in the death of an innocent man, Mr Freund now finds himself facing first degree murder charges. I offer my sincere condolences to Dexter’s family and friends and wish them strength as they are now forced to continue their lives without the love and friendship they enjoyed with Dexter.”
Berlin added, “I thank DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick and his team for their work on this sad case as well as DuPage MERIT for their efforts. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Diane Michalak, Helen Kapas and Anthony Raimondi, for their work in securing charges against Mr Freund.”
Freund is currently held without bond at DuPage County Jail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for January 18, as per the report by DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
