NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: It's no wonder that the new boss of the media firm that oversees MSNBC wants more Republican voices on the network and reduced opinion content during primetime.

Far-left liberal anchor Joy Reid recently went on a social media tirade saying she is wearing elephant earrings in honor of January 6, 2021.

Joy Reid wears elephant earrings in honor of Jan 6

Joy Reid kicked off 2025 by wearing elephant earrings during her show 'The ReidOut', marking the fourth anniversary of the January 6 insurrection.

Now, if you’re wondering why she chose elephants, she explained: “Today is January 6th, 2025, four years since the January 6th insurrection. We Americans who actually care about democracy and the real peaceful transfer of power, you know, not coups and insurrections, we will never forget.”

Joy Reid gets mocked for wearing elephant earrings

But social media wasn’t exactly feeling Joy Reid's “never forget” energy—especially since elephants are the symbol of the Republican Party.

"She’s wearing elephant earrings to commemorate Republicans winning everything in November," one posted on X.

"And yet she’s accidentally wearing the Republican symbol on her ears. We’ll take it," another quipped.

"I don't think she thought that completely through. It's true she's wearing the GOP mascot earrings. On the day they're gonna certify the Trump Administration. Lmao," a third user joked.

"Or she had to wear cheap earrings because of the pay cut since no one watches her crappy show," read a comment.

"I'm really getting tired of hearing that J6 is worse than Pearl Harbor and the Holocaust," someone else offered.

"Anyone know how big of a pay cut they made her take? That’s something else I bet she doesn’t forget," another remarked.

Joy Reid’s election rants

Since the election that gave President-elect Donald Trump a landslide victory, Joy Reid has been using her MSNBC platform and social media to vent her frustrations. And let’s just say, subtlety is not her strong suit.

One of her more controversial moments came when she called out Latino men for their voting choices just days after the election. “While 91 percent of Black women voted for [Harris], 53 percent of white women overall voted for Trump," she began on air.

"[This is] despite the open disrespect and demonization hurled by JD Vance and the Supreme Court stripping women’s bodily autonomy, courtesy of Donald Trump," she added.

Reid fumed, “Latino men, who—despite the utter disrespect shown by Trump and his promise to deport some of your mixed-class, mixed-status families—most of them voted in a 55 percent majority to make the deportations happen," adding, "You all voted with Stephen Miller and David Duke and against your own sisters who chose [Harris] with 60 percent of their votes."

Her final message to those voters was rather disturbing. “You [better] own everything that happens to your mixed-status families and to your wives, sisters, and abuelas from here on in," she concluded.

Mark Lazarus and MSNBC’s new era

While Joy Reid has been busy with earrings and election rants, Mark Lazarus — the new CEO of SpinCo (the company that now oversees MSNBC) — has reportedly been making moves to shake things up.

Reports suggest his goal is to shed MSNBC’s reputation for being a liberal echo chamber and bring more Republican voices to the table.

According to insiders, Lazarus wants to push opinion content out of primetime and into daytime slots. That might mean major pay cuts for longtime opinion hosts like Reid and Stephanie Ruhle, who are already in discussions about their future at the network, per DailyMail.

This isn’t the first time Lazarus has made waves. Just weeks ago, reports surfaced that he slashed Rachel Maddow's salary by $5 million as part of her new five-year deal with the network. Now, Reid and other high-profile hosts could be next on the chopping block.

Lazarus, who previously oversaw NBCUniversal’s TV and streaming divisions, has been vocal about his plans to “rebalance” MSNBC’s programming. By moving opinion-heavy shows out of primetime and bringing some diversity to the network’s voices, he’s aiming to attract a broader audience.
