MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin explains how Harris' tactic of portraying Trump as 'incumbent' is working

Ayman Mohyeldin said Trump’s denial of being the 'incumbent' would be more credible if he hadn’t behaved like a 'president' over the past four years

WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin recently highlighted why Donald Trump is frustrated over the way Kamala Harris is portraying him as the “incumbent rather than the challenger” in the 2024 presidential race.

According to HuffPost, Mohyeldin argued that Trump's recent outburst on Truth Social reveals his frustration and anxiety over Harris’ tactic, stating that he is “clearly rattled” by it.

Trump’s denial of incumbency criticized as self-inflicted

Donald Trump expressed anger over Harris’s portrayal, claiming she is attempting to depict him as the “incumbent President,” thus blaming him for the previous administration's failures.

Mohyeldin countered Trump’s denial, saying, “Now, this denial from Trump would carry some weight if he hadn’t spent the last four years acting as if he is the current president.”

He elaborated, “If you were living overseas and just a casual observer of American politics, I couldn’t even blame you for thinking he never left the White House.”

Mohyeldin pointed out that Trump’s use of “fake presidential seals” at his properties, his travel on “Trump Force One,” and his conduct of what appears to be official presidential business from Mar-a-Lago contribute to the perception that he’s still acting like a president.

“Almost as if he’s chief diplomat” for the country, he added.

Mohyeldin concluded that Trump’s dissatisfaction with being labeled the incumbent in the 2024 race is largely self-inflicted, given his ongoing behavior.

Internet react to Trump's post-White House tactics

Public reactions to Trump’s post-White House behavior reveal a mix of skepticism and criticism.

One user wrote, "Well he does think he is president and he does think he won the last election."

Anothe user commented, "“If you were living overseas and just a casual observer of American politics, I couldn’t even blame you for thinking he never left the White House,” So, Biden/Harris have been so weak and inconsequential that it does not even seem like they were in charge for the last four years?"

One person said, "Everything that Trump is dealing with is self inflicted. He has no one to blame but himself. Harris doesn't have to beat Trump, she jsut has to stay out of his way as he beats himself. "

Another replied, "Here are worse things than being called Former President Trump, of course. Inmate Trump, for example."

Another added, "He's a former one-term president. It is what it is."
