Mystery deepens as NYPD investigates viral videos of men climbing out of NYC sewers
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Videos showing groups of men mysteriously emerging from New York City sewers have sparked an ongoing police investigation after footage surfaced from multiple locations in Brooklyn.
Authorities said on Monday that while the incidents have drawn widespread attention online, investigators have found no evidence of any immediate threat to public safety.
🇺🇸 #Brooklyn. It appears 6 or 7 more individuals was spotted coming out of a different manhole . It appears the men all had tools on them as well .

NYPD investigates bizarre Brooklyn sewer sightings caught on video
The unusual incidents came to light after social media videos captured groups of men emerging from manholes in different Brooklyn neighborhoods last week.
One video, timestamped around 2 am on Friday, May 29, shows a man dressed in a white shirt and shorts lifting a manhole cover before allowing a group of seven men to climb out from below ground.
The men appeared to be wearing protective clothing or coveralls before quickly changing into different outfits near the intersection of McDonald Avenue and Bedford Avenue.
A separate video filmed elsewhere in Brooklyn showed another startling scene.

In the footage, a man wearing a red shirt pushed open a manhole cover from below and climbed into a street that was still open to traffic near Heyward Street and Bedford Avenue.
Moments later, six additional men emerged from the same opening.
At least three of them appeared to be carrying shovels, while several others were seen with headlamps or similar equipment.
Authorities say there is no immediate threat to the public
Despite the unusual nature of the videos, police have stressed that investigators have not uncovered any indication of criminal activity that would pose a danger to the public.
According to a senior law enforcement official who spoke about the investigation, authorities currently believe the group may have been searching for valuable items that make their way into the city's sewer system.
Police are reportedly pursuing a theory that the men were "scouring the system for valuables that get into the sewage."
Officials emphasized that precautionary measures were taken immediately after the videos surfaced.
“The NYPD, to make sure there was not a threat to the public, sent their highly trained Emergency Services Unit officers into the sewer system to make sure nothing nefarious had been left behind by the individuals — nothing was found," a senior law enforcement official said.
The official added that New York City's Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the sewer network, also inspected the areas involved.
"And the city Environmental Protection Department, which manages the system, also went in and apparently found no damage to the sewer system equipment," the official explained.
The inspections provided some reassurance to authorities, who said they found no signs of tampering, sabotage or damage inside the sewer infrastructure.
Investigators have not linked the incidents together
While both videos surfaced around the same period and involved similar scenes, investigators have not formally connected the incidents.
Police said they are still examining the circumstances surrounding each event separately and have not yet determined whether the same group of individuals was involved.
The footage does show several similarities, including groups of men emerging from underground locations while carrying equipment and wearing protective gear.
However, officials cautioned against drawing conclusions before the investigation is complete.
Authorities also confirmed that no injuries were reported in connection with either incident.
"There were no injuries reported. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing," a police spokesperson said.
