CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) compared the threat of former President Donald Trump being reelected to the White House to the existential wars of the United States, a month after both parties agreed to tone down the divisive political rhetoric in light of the assassination attempt on the GOP nominee.

The former House speaker made the comments during an interview on MSNBC on Thursday, August 22, the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. She suggested that Trump was as much of a threat to democracy as the Confederacy and the British while discussing her party's mission to win the November election.

Trump faced an assassination attempt on July 13 while speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bullets fired at him by Thomas Matthew Crooks only managed to graze his right ear. However, one of the rally-goers lost his life in the incident, and two others were gravely injured.

Addressing the nation soon after the shooting, Joe Biden stated, "My fellow Americans, I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics. Do remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors, we’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together."

Members of both parties had rallied behind the president's call to tone down the political rhetoric.

Nancy Pelosi highlights the 'threat' of a second Donald Trump term

"The times have found us," told Nancy Pelosi to MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell, claiming that the threat of another Trump presidency was similar to the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

She added, "We have to defeat a person who is a threat to our democracy of the kind that we have not seen. At the beginning of our country, Thomas Paine said that times have found us. Declare war, establish a new nation. Abraham Lincoln took up that charge to keep our country together years later – decades later."

"And now the times have found us to save our democracy. That is what we are here to do," remarked the congresswoman.

Internet slams Nancy Pelosi over her remarks on Donald Trump

Nancy Pelosi faced backlash over her remarks on the "threat" of Donald Trump, especially since he faced an assassination attempt weeks ago in the heated political climate of the country.

One wrote, "Donald Trump is only a threat the our enemies and the democrat party," and another said, "Seems like they are getting more and more desperate."

"Says the woman who staged a coup on the democratically nominated candidate," remarked a person, hinting at her role in forcing Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race.

A confused netizen inquired, "What the hell is she even talking about?"

An individual expressed, "Democrats like to fear-mongering and project their own actions onto others. They are the ones that have spent the last few years going after Trump in the courts, trying to remove people from the ballots, and staging a coup in their own party."

"Once again, she demonstrates she is deceitful, disparaging, despicable," fumed one more.
