WASHINGTON, DC: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed CNN anchor Jake Tapper for asking a question regarding allegations of insider trading.

Pelosi and her husband, Paul, have long been targeted by allegations of insider trading, given their portfolio’s massive returns over the years.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted on Wednesday, July 30, to advance legislation proposed by Senator Josh Hawley. The bill would ban members of Congress, the president, and the vice president from buying stocks and other securities. The vote passed 8-7, with all Republicans except Hawley voting against it.

Nancy Pelosi appeared on Wednesday’s edition of 'The Lead,' where CNN’s Jake Tapper raised remarks made earlier by President Donald Trump, who himself has faced speculation regarding insider trading.

The president had said, "Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information."

Tapper began reading the quote but was interrupted by Pelosi after saying the word “rich.”

A fuming Pelosi responded, "Why do you have to read that? We’re here to talk about the 60th anniversary of Medicaid. That’s what I agreed to come to talk about..."

Tapper interjected, "Yeah, but I wanted to..." as Pelosi continued, "...and what that means in the election."

Tapper clarified, "I wanted to give you a chance just to respond. He accused you of insider trading. What’s your response to that?"

Pelosi then replied, visibly irritated, "That’s ridiculous. In fact, I very much support the stop the trading of members of Congress. Not that I think anybody is doing anything wrong. If they are, they are prosecuted and they go to jail."

She continued, "But because of the confidence it instills in the American people, don’t worry about this. But I have no concern about the obvious investments that have been made over time."

She added, "I’m not into it. My husband is, but it isn’t anything to do with anything insider. But the President has his own exposure, so he’s always projecting. He’s always projecting, and let’s not give him any more time on that, please. We’re going forward here."

Pelosi then pivoted back to the topic of Medicaid, criticizing the Trump administration’s "big, beautiful bill," which she said would cut roughly $1 trillion from the program over the next decade and potentially remove 12 million people from its rolls.

Social media erupts over Nancy Pelosi’s heated reaction to insider trading question

Several internet users trolled Nancy Pelosi after she appeared visibly frustrated with Jake Tapper for asking about allegations of insider trading.

One user on X wrote, "Good! Give her hell about that! Absolutely no one has a 3000% gain without insider trading!" Another added, "What a strange way to answer a simple question… Anyone who answers a question like this clearly has something to hide. Pelosi needs to be investigated by @DOGE immediately!"

A third person stated, "She got VISIBLY uncomfortable by that question being posed. There needs to be a full investigation into Pelosi," while another remarked, "She is a poorly executing liar. So obvious."

Other users chimed in with, "She’s scared, they’re coming," and, "Her guilt is so BLATANTLY OBVIOUS. What a corrupt, evil, angry, defensive human she is. Also… a TERRIBLE liar. The transparency of her guilt is astounding."
