SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) stated that the decision for President Joe Biden to run for reelection rests solely with him, amid calls for him to quit the 2024 presidential race following his disastrous debate performance on June 27.

Pelosi's comments stopped short of endorsing the incumbent president, according to The Hill.

Nancy Pelosi's position on Joe Biden's presidential candidacy

During MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' on Wednesday, July 10, Nancy Pelosi, a significant figure in the House Democratic Caucus, was asked whether President Joe Biden had her support to be the party's nominee.

However, she declined to offer a definitive endorsement, instead deferring the decision to Biden himself.

“It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision. Because time is running short," said Pelosi.

“But he’s beloved, He is respected and people want him to make that decision, not me," she added.

Joe Biden's firm stance on his 2024 election run

Joe Biden's shaky debate performance raised questions among Democrats over the president's age and mental fitness.

During the debate against Donald Trump, the 81-year-old president appeared to halt and meander, sparking concerns within his own party about his capability to serve another four-year term.

Despite calls from some members of the Democratic Party to quit the 2024 race and widespread criticism, Biden has remained firm in his stance that he will continue his reelection campaign.

In a call to donors on Monday, July 8, he said, “The Democratic nominee is me."

Nancy Pelosi calls for patience amid concerns over Joe Biden's candidacy

Following Joe Biden's firm stance on his candidacy, MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire asked Nancy Pelosi, “He has said he has made the decision, he has said firmly this week he is going to run. Do you want him to run?”

“I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that’s, that’s the way it is. Whatever he decides, we go with,” the former speaker responded.

She also advised fellow Democrats to hold off on public statements regarding Biden's candidacy.

“I’ve said to everyone, let’s just hold off, whatever you’re thinking, either tell somebody privately, but you don’t have to put that out on the table until we see how we go this week,” said Pelosi.

Internet doubles down on Nancy Pelosi deferring Joe Biden on 2024 presidential run

Reacting to Nancy Pelosi stating it is up to Joe Biden to decide if he is running for the 2024 race, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "That is not a ringing endorsement."

"Lol. Sounds very supportive," jibed a user while another penned, "He's the current President, Nancy. Have some respect."

"LOL! She’s just ignoring that he already made his decision. Very telling," a netizen commented.
