Naomi Judd’s daughter Wynonna reveals she and half-sister Ashley are ‘taking a break’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Wynonna Judd has shared rare insight into her current relationship with her half-sister, Ashley Judd.
The 62-year-old singer recently revealed that they are “taking a break,” years after the death of their famous mother, Naomi Judd.
Wynonna Judd reveals current relationship with Ashley Judd
Speaking with PEOPLE for this week’s cover story, Wynonna said, “We’re taking a break, which all families can relate to. She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine.”
“She just travels a lot. She’s always gone. It’s nothing specific,” she stated.
Wynonna Judd recalls childhood with Ashley Judd
Wynonna’s new solo album, ‘The Hard Truth,’ will be released on October 2. It includes tracks such as ‘Kentucky Queen,’ which brings back memories of her childhood with Ashley in the mountains.
The mother of two shared, “I remember the good times with Ashley, and the times we were hungry. We made up for it in music and fellowship and food. So we had what we needed most of the time.”
She also offered more insight into her new album, adding, “I feel like this is the most honest and vulnerable I’ve ever been. It’s definitely bittersweet, letting go of all the emotion, the joy, the pain, and the sorrow. It’s there for everyone to hear.”
“There are some days I think, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ And then other days I think, ‘There comes a point in your life when you are ready to tell your testimony,’” Wynonna asserted.
Wynonna Judd opens up about sisterly bond
This is not the first time the ‘No One Else on Earth’ hitmaker has opened up about her relationship with Ashley.
Last year, while appearing on ‘Talking in Circles with Clint Black,’ Wynonna explained, “Ashley’s doing well. I don’t see her very much, and we’re not as close as I’d like to be, but that’s because success took us away from each other. It’s a funny thing. There’s a bit of sadness because being famous takes you from home.”
She also revealed that she was more like Ashley’s mother than her sister.
“I raised Ashley. That’s why we have such a funny relationship, ‘cause she calls me ‘sister mommy.’ And I’m a little bit sad about that, ‘cause I didn’t get to be her sister. It was just the two of us, trying to survive. I’m bigger and meaner than her, ‘cause I had to be. I had to be mean ‘cause I had to keep it together. When you’re 14 years old, and your mom is working all the time and you learn to drive,” Wynonna added.
