TEL AVIV, ISRAEL: Hours after Iran announced that it had suspended attacks on Israel, which were carried out in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s assault on Lebanon, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that "struggle" with Iran and Hezbollah was “not over yet.”
After 100 days of truce between the Middle Eastern enemies, the hostilities briefly resumed on Sunday.
While Iran reportedly had launched three waves of missiles on Israel, Tel Aviv fired truck-based surface-to-air launchers and petrochemical facilities inside the Islamic Republic.
Netanyahu vows to continue fighting Iran and Hezbollah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video statement Monday, June 8, that "in the past 24 hours, Iran and Hezbollah have tried to impose a new equation on us. And this equation is intolerable and unacceptable."
"Iran and Hezbollah are weaker than ever, and we are stronger than ever -- but our struggle with them is not over yet," Netanyahu added.
Netanyahu asserted that Israel “contained” hostilities against Iran because strikes on Israel from Iran stopped after Israel struck Iran.
"Israel has a full right to self-defense, and we exercise it to the extent necessary. I say this to you, as I say it with appreciation and respect in my good conversations with my friend President Trump," Netanyahu said.
Earlier on Monday, an Israeli military official told ABC News that they were preparing for ‘several days’ of strikes or “as long as it will take” amid new direct exchanges between Israel and Iran that resumed on Sunday.
Iran issues warning despite attack suspension
The Iranian military's Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned against continued hostilities, saying that decisive action would follow, as it announced that retaliatory attacks against Israel for assaults on Lebanon were concluded.
"A painful response was delivered to the Israeli regime, and the suspension of armed forces operations is announced," the statement said, according to Iranian state media.
"If the aggressions and provocations continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and decisive actions than before will follow," the statement added.
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, 15 Iranians were injured in recent Israeli attacks on the country, the head of Iran's emergency medical services said on Monday.
Trump, Netanyahu hold talks
President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone in two separate calls, once on Sunday and once on Monday, after Israel and Iran exchanged strikes over the weekend, a White House official and an Israeli source familiar with the matter confirmed to ABC News.
