COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO: According to officials, a 25-year-old student named Nicholas Jordan was taken under arrest by police on Monday, February 19, while they conducted investigations into a double murder case at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.

According to Colorado Springs police, the 25-year-old student has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Samuel Knopp and Celie Montgomery who were found shot dead in a dorm room on Friday, February 16.

University of Colorado imposed a 90-minute campus-wide lockdown

According to the police official, Jordan was apprehended without any problems in Colorado Springs early on Monday, after being discovered in a car.

As per a university spokesman, Jordan is a Detroit native who is enrolled at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

ABC News reported, "An isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students," is how the shootings appeared, according to a police statement. 

The university's residence hall, Creston House, was the scene of gunfire on Friday, February 16, morning. When authorities arrived, they discovered Knopp and Montgomery deceased.

Following the shooting, the university was closed for the day and the entire weekend. Officials imposed a 90-minute campus-wide lockdown. While the institution offered walk-in counseling on Monday, the university administration decided to cancel classes.

University's chancellor expressed shock and heartbreak for victims

The victims, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department, were Pueblo, Colorado resident Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Parker, Colorado resident Samuel Knopp, 24.

According to police, Montgomery had not registered herself at the University, but Knopp was one of the enrolled students. Students Gibson Marable and Ricky Knopp were described as "uplifting" and "probably the best musician on campus," respectively, as stated by ABC News.

"We are in shock as we process this tragic loss of two lives," Jennifer Sobanet, the chancellor of the university, stated during a news conference. "My heart is broken for the victims of today's senseless violence," he said.
