WASHINGTON, D.C.: During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated the United States government's unwavering commitment to Ukraine.

Despite the current difficulties faced by the embattled nation in garnering wartime support and aid from the US Congress, Harris made it clear that the United States of America would continue to support Ukraine, according to a report by the New York Post.

This announcement came after a private meeting between Harris and Zelenskyy, where the two leaders discussed various issues related to bilateral relations and regional security.

VP Harris's statement serves as a testament to the strong partnership and cooperation between the United States and Ukraine.

What did Kamala Harris say about US support for Ukraine?

Harris stated during the Munich Security Conference 2024 in Germany on Saturday, February 17, “When we talk about the role of America, as it relates to our support for Ukraine, we must be unwavering and we cannot play political games. Political gamesmanship has no role to play in what is fundamentally about the significance of standing with an ally as it endures unprovoked aggression.”

VP Harris and President Zelenskyy spoke to the press immediately after Ukraine announced the withdrawal of its troops from the eastern city of Avdiivka, which had long been an epicenter of severe and violent military conflict.

Harris posited on the war that will enter its third year this week, “This war has been an utter failure for Putin. President Zelenskyy, the stakes of your fight remain high for your country and the entire world, and it is in the strategic interest of the United States to continue our support.”

“President Biden and I will continue to work to secure the resources and weapons that you need to succeed,” she added. “We will also continue to support your efforts to secure a just and lasting peace.”

The recent development of close ties between the United States and Ukraine comes at a time when some members of Congress, particularly those within the Republican Party, are expressing reservations about the provision of further funding for the Ukrainian war effort.

Despite the Senate's approval of a $95.3 billion aid package to Ukraine and Israel, which aims to provide both nations with much-needed armaments and other hardware, the bill remains stuck in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives.

“We are counting on this positive decision of the Congress. For us. This package is vital,” Zelenskyy stated, adding that there is no "Plan B" in case the United States is unable to deliver it. "We do not currently look into alternatives, because we're counting on the United States."

VP Harris also brought up the death of Russian activist and longtime Kremlin dissident Alexei Navalny, who died on Friday inside a remote Russian prison.

President Joe Biden and other international leaders deemed Russian President Vladimir Putin entirely culpable for his political opponent’s death.

“Alexei Navalny has been a brave leader who stood up against corruption and autocracy. And he stood up for the truth. The reports of his death are further proof of Putin’s brutality,” Harris remarked. “It reminds us why our support for Ukraine is so important.”

Internet wasn’t impressed by Kamala Harris’ assertions about Ukraine

People on X expressed mixed opinions about the United States’ involvement in the Ukraine-Russia war and how they envision the conflict unfolding in the coming years.

One X user remarked: "America 1st"

Another user said: "Kamala Harris, “US support for Never-ending wars ‘must be unwavering’”"

Another user wrote: "Support for the constitution must be unwavering. Ukraine? Not so much."

One user claimed: "Huh….many of these politicians who for years constantly lamented that they hated ‘forever’ wars, really seem to love funding & fighting ‘forever’ wars…"

Another X user stated: "Americans don’t want to fund Ukraine"

Finally, this user tweeted: "That is an irresponsible comment by Harris. While his death is tragic, this is not an American war. No more warmongering!"
