CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: New Hampshire's Republican Governor, Chris Sununu, criticized Kentucky's Republican Senator, Rand Paul, on Friday, January 12, for launching a 'Never Nikki' initiative against his preferred GOP presidential candidate, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.

Paul launched an anti-Haley campaign, stating, “Based on her record and campaign, I don’t see how any thoughtful or informed libertarian or conservative should vote for @NikkiHaley. If you agree, let your voice be heard."



 

He further added, "I am #NeverNikki, and I hope you will be too."

On the same day, during a Newsmax appearance, Gov. Sununu dismissed Senator Paul's comments, implying that his efforts would have little impact on voters in crucial primary states.

What did Governor Sununu say during his TV interview on Friday?

Newsmax hosts asked Governor Sununu for his reaction to Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul’s comments against the candidate he’d endorsed in Nikki Haley, “What does this mean for her campaign?”

"What does Rand Paul mean? Nothing. I'm sorry, but nobody cares what Rand Paul thinks in this race. This race is in Iowa and New Hampshire; it's in South Carolina. She's the only candidate that's surging," Sununu responded when pressed on Paul's initiative.



 

Sununu reiterated his harsh criticism against the Republican Senator later in the interview, hammering down on his disapproval of Paul.

He continued, "With all due respect to the Senator, maybe when the US Senate actually starts doing something and actually starts delivering some results, they can stand on their soapbox and think that their words matter, but until then, sorry Rand Paul. Nobody cares."

Sununu's comments come after the Kentucky lawmaker criticized Haley's foreign policy positions, saying she belongs to the "Dick Cheney, John McCain wing of the party."



 

During Friday’s interview, Sununu also toned down Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s aspirations in the upcoming GOP primaries, predicting that the Republican voter base has “made it effectively a one-on-one race at this point between Nikki and Donald Trump.”

Paul, who campaigned for President of the United States in 2016, did not rule out campaigning against Haley, whose poll numbers in New Hampshire have been rising, thanks in part to Sununu's endorsement, according to The Hill.

According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Haley narrowly stands in second place for the Republican presidential nomination, earning 11.3% support, just ahead of DeSantis, who earns 10.9% support, while Trump leads with an overwhelming majority of 61.1%.

People on X (formerly Twitter) sided with Senator Paul and were unimpressed with Gov. Sununu's assessment of Nikki Haley's chances and forewarned him about the upcoming caucuses where his endorsed candidate will be facing a mighty uphill battle against the former President, Donald Trump.
