North Carolina student slaps teacher and faces charges

According to the New York Post, a video showing a high school student in North Carolina repeatedly slapping his teacher while yelling obscenities caused a stir online recently.

The student, whose name hasn't been disclosed because he's a minor, unleashed his anger at the teacher at Parkland High School, Winston-Salem. He can be seen aggressively assaulting her in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Even after the initial slap, the teacher remained composed while the student kept verbally attacking her. She responded coolly, "Do you think that affected me anyway?" To which the student callously retorted, "Want me to hit you again?"

With another slap, the teacher's glasses flew off her face. The student then taunted her, saying, “The f**k’s wrong with you, what you gonna do, still sit in that chair ’cause you a b***h. Ain’t nobody even coming, you got slapped. B***h go back to teaching," while seemingly dancing.

Meanwhile, students behind the camera laughed at the shocking scene. The school district swiftly condemned the student's actions, emphasizing that such behavior won't be tolerated.

According to WXII, Superintendent Tricia McManus expressed concern saying, “This behavior will not be tolerated. At no time is it acceptable for students to put their hands on a teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. My focus now is on making sure that our teacher is taken care of and has the support needed to navigate through the lasting effects of this incident,"

The student is in hot water legally, facing three misdemeanor charges. These charges include assaulting a government official, making threats, and misdemeanor assault.

Sheriff Bobby F Kimbrough Jr stressed the importance of respecting teachers and said, “All of us should be outraged when those who educate us can be assaulted. We should hold those who teach and educate our children to the highest regard."

Parkland High School's principal, Noel Keener, assured disciplinary measures would be taken in addition to the legal proceedings, "Please know this video is not reflective of our expectations of students at Parkland High School. We are working with district staff to address this immediately and ensure behavior like this is not tolerated in our school and district.”

District Attorney Jim O’Neil emphasized that the incident transcends race or politics, sending a clear message of support to teachers and the importance of their safety at work, as reported by the New York Post.

Internet users assert North Carolina student deserves to be charged

A user on X wrote, "Absolutely horrible."

Another user on Facebook wrote, "If a teacher responded in any other way but to sit there and be slapped, they would be charged. Students know this and provoke teachers to react."

A user commented, "You would all be shocked at how so many students act this way daily … it’s not a rare occurrence."

Another user commented, "Skip the trial..this kid needs immediate therapy, then jailtime."

A user stated, "WTF, jail time for student and something for the parents. The parents carry some responsibility. This affects every student and teacher in that school."

Another user stated, "Culture of violence is out of control."
