MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: On Saturday, a woman in New York had both of her feet severed after her boyfriend pushed her onto the subway tracks in Manhattan.
The 29-year-old woman was hit by a No 3 train heading south at the Fulton Street station in lower Manhattan, according to WABC, which was reported by New York police.
Woman was conscious and responsive when police arrived
The woman's boyfriend shoved her onto the train tracks and fled after the two got into a fight, according to reports.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to New York City Health and Hospital Bellevue in stable condition after EMS arrived on the scene, according to the NYPD.
Radio station WINS reports that the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. The boyfriend hasn't been found by the police yet.
In a statement provided to PEOPLE, the NYPD acknowledged that they had responded to a 911 call regarding a female on the tracks at the Fulton Street subway station in lower Manhattan around 10:25 a.m.
As police arrived on the scene, they discovered a 29-year-old woman who had been "struck by a southbound No 3 train" and was "conscious" and "responsive." After a preliminary inquiry, it was concluded that she had been "pushed onto the tracks."
The incident caused the woman to lose both of her feet, as reported by The New York Post.
The latter outlet was informed by sources that "they were arguing" and that "he pushed her" before he left the area. According to NBC 4 New York, the man was wearing blue jeans, a dark-colored jacket, and a blue shirt when he ran away.
According to the outlet, police have been searching the area for video footage showing the two interacting. The incident caused several subway trains traveling southward to be delayed for hours while police conducted their investigation.
NYCT Subway announced No 2 and No 3 trains were delayed
At 10:30 a.m., the NYCT Subway announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the No 2 and No 3 trains traveling south were "delayed" as they looked into "why a train's brakes activated at Fulton St."

NYCT Subway reported at 11 a.m. that the No 2 and No 3 trains heading south were being "rerouted," and that riders on the No 4 and No 5 trains would also be delayed as a result of the reroutes.
Later, at approximately 1 p.m., NYCT Subway announced that service had resumed between Manhattan and Brooklyn but that southbound No 2 and No 3 trains would not stop at Fulton Street in either direction. It also mentioned that delays are still to be expected in both directions.
