Chilling footage captures Daniel Ford Coates shooting

The surveillance video shows the chilling moment Ford Coates is killed. In the video, Babin holds the gun close to his head and says, “Oh, don’t think I will?” as he pulls the trigger and fires the fatal shot.

At least two other people witnessed the shooting. The gunshot can be distinctly heard in the recording, followed by a woman's voice screaming, "Oh f**k." A panicked woman can be heard repeatedly screaming at least seven times, "You're not dead, you're not dead." This video is one of the pieces of evidence that the Bangor police used against Babin.

Olivia Babin blames friend for Daniel Ford Coates murder

During Babin’s bond hearing on April 5, Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Ackerman informed the judge that Bangor Police had interviewed Babin at the scene, revealing that she had provided false information about the incident.

In her initial police interview, Babin purportedly claimed that another friend had argued with Ford-Coates about a woman. She stated that she heard a loud bang and saw the friend fleeing the scene. However, the friend offered a conflicting narrative, alleging that Babin had retrieved Ford-Coates’ 9mm handgun from his bedroom and aimed it at his head before firing.

According to the Bangor Police Department, Babin changed her clothes after the shooting and disposed of the handgun in the nearby Kenduskeag River before calling 911. Paramedics transported Ford-Coates to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, but the friend claimed that Babin was attempting to intimidate them.  Although the gun lacked a magazine, it still contained a bullet in the chamber. Ackerman asserted in court that alcohol and drugs had been consumed on the night of the incident.

Babin is currently held on a $100,000 bond at the Penobscot County Jail and has not yet entered a plea. Babin's next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.

Internet says Daniel Ford Coates killing isn't manslaughter

After hearing Babin's voice before she killed her boyfriend, many internet users have shared their comments.

One user said, "Uh this isn't manslaughter, it's a straight-up murder. Violated the cardinal rules of assuming every gun is loaded and never point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot."

Another user said, "Flight, disposal of evidence, equal guilt. This is a murder case, pure and simple. Should be an open charge of murder, at least 2nd degree."

The third said, "OMG this is awful! May the young man RIP."

The fourth user added, " Wow RIP, silly little girl playing with a gun over an argument and trying to act tough. 25 to life..."

The last user said, "Manslaughter. She'll be out long before she's 40."
