WASHINGTON, DC: Megyn Kelly is defending Savannah Guthrie after some people online criticized the 'Today' show host for wearing makeup in a recent video about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Kelly called these critics "online nuts" and argued that Guthrie’s appearance is actually a sign of her strength and resilience during a difficult time.

Megyn Kelly defends Savannah Guthrie amid makeup backlash

Megyn Kelly did not hold back while addressing the negative comments directed at Savannah Guthrie.

She noted that Savannah was "having a little makeup on" and "having done her hair a little bit," which prompted some people to say they would "never put on a stitch of makeup" if their own mother were missing.

Kelly hit back, saying that Savannah has "obviously had the hardest week plus of her life."

She explained that the earlier videos, which showed Guthrie looking "incredibly raw," offered a real look at "your depression, your sadness, and your inability barely to get out of bed."

Megyn Kelly says Savannah Guthrie ‘sounded stronger’ in update

Kelly explained that for someone used to a daily television routine, putting on makeup is like putting on "armor."

She said that when things are "really hard, really hard, you don’t do it," so seeing Savannah make an effort was "pretty herculean and impressive."

Kelly viewed the makeup as a "very good sign of her mental health" and a way of saying, "I will find myself again."

She added that by looking a little more like her usual self, Savannah sent a message that she is "suffering, but I’m still in there."

Kelly also noted that Savannah "sounded stronger" in this latest update.

The debate started after Guthrie posted a new update regarding the search for her mother, Nancy, who was kidnapped.

While some viewers claimed they would never care about their looks in such a crisis, Kelly insisted that getting ready is a way for Guthrie to protect her mental health and find the courage to keep speaking out.

Savannah Guthrie urges public tips in Nancy's search

In the recent video, Savannah Guthrie used her platform to ask for the public's help in finding her mother.

She told her followers, "We believe our mom is still out there," and explained that she was coming on to ask for "not just for your prayers," but for anyone to report "anything at all that seems strange."

Savannah described the current situation as "an hour of desperation" as the search continues. She concluded by saying that while "law enforcement is working tirelessly," the family needs people everywhere to stay alert to help bring her mother home.
