WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris faced a cringe-worthy moment during a star-studded campaign event hosted by none other than Oprah Winfrey.

The 'Unite for America' livestream on Thursday night, September 19, intended to highlight grassroots organizers supporting Harris, quickly turned awkward when Winfrey was forced to step in after the vice president rambled through a question about securing the southern border.

Kamala Harris offers vague promises without concrete solution to border crisis

When asked about her plan to address the border crisis, Kamala Harris meandered into a long-winded recount of her background.

“So it’s a wonderful and important question. I, you know, my background was as a prosecutor, and I was also the elected Attorney General for two terms of the border state. So this is not a theoretical issue for me. This is something I’ve actually worked on,” the VP began, before shifting blame to Republicans for not passing the bipartisan border bill.

After three minutes of circling the topic, Oprah had enough.

“So to answer Justin’s question,” the legendary talk show host interjected, visibly attempting to reel in Harris' answer.

The broadcast icon, known for her no-nonsense approach, pushed Harris to get to the point, asking, “Now that that bill is gone and hasn’t passed, will you introduce...?”

Harris hastily cut in with a vague “Absolutely,” promising to sign the bill into law once elected president but still offering no concrete new solutions for the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

Immigration and border issues have become key issues in this year's presidential election, with the Republicans blaming Harris for the surge of migrants into the US in the past couple of years.

Star-studded event falls flat as Kamala Harris leans on celebrity support

The two-hour event, livestreamed from Michigan, was designed to reach a wide audience through Oprah Winfrey’s star power, but instead, it showcased the Democratic nominee dodging policy questions while leaning on celebrity endorsements.

Stars like Chris Rock and Ben Stiller joined the event to show their support for Harris, but the lack of new policy proposals left many underwhelmed.

The evening also saw Harris focusing heavily on her platform’s well-worn talking points, such as abortion rights.

She argued that it’s “immoral” to deny someone the right to make decisions about their body. She also reiterated her economic promises, including $25,000 in down payments for new homeowners and tax benefits for small businesses and families.

Kamala Harris' team acknowledges tight race in key battleground states

Oprah Winfrey, who has been a vocal supporter of Kamala Harris, even remarked that the vice president has shown more swagger since President Joe Biden bowed out of the race.

Harris, in turn, spoke of her sense of duty following Biden’s exit. “I felt a sense of responsibility, to be honest with you, and with that comes a sense of purpose.”

Even her campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon, admitted the race is “tied” in critical battleground states, including Michigan.

“While we have this extraordinary growing enthusiasm that the vice president and Governor Walz are seeing everywhere, we are still in a margin of error rates. It’s tied,” she claimed.

“It’s tied right here in Michigan. It’s tied in all the battleground states. So it’s going to take all of us to build a pathway, many pathways, to 270 electoral votes. That’s what we’re focused on," said Dillon, per New York Post.

With just six media interviews leading up to the livestream with Winfrey, an unusually low number for a 2024 presidential candidate, and a delay of over a month in rolling out her full policy platform, Harris' ability to tackle critical issues—especially immigration—continues to be a point of concern.

Internet reacts as Kamala Harris dodges border crisis question

Kamala Harris’ appearance at a star-studded Michigan event hosted by Oprah Winfrey sparked a fierce reaction online, with users quick to call out the vice president for her evasive response to a key question on the border crisis.

"Can't even handle softballs from friends but she'll be just fine with Putin and Xi...," tweeted a user.

"It doesn’t matter what border bill was or wasn’t signed, on day one Joe & Kamala canceled all of Trumps border agenda & by doing so they opened the gates of hell on America," said a second.

"That border bill was bad, and allowed 5,000 people a day into the country," a third claimed.

"Oprah’s facial expressions are priceless. Even she can’t believe the cringe and word salads," read a tweet.

"This is unbelievably difficult to watch," penned a user.

"Millions of illegals had already gotten into the country BEFORE that bill was even drafted. Blaming the bill for the border crisis is her go-to answer," said a user.

"She HAS to be losing votes on this s**t," chimed another.

"She can’t answer a damn question. How can the left accept this bs?! They are just going to install her so it doesn’t matter how incompetent she is, I guess," commented a user.
