'Our Zeke is now at rest': Grieving family speaks out as 10-month-old found next to naked suspect Jeremy Best, accused of killing his wife

VICTOR, IDAHO: A family in Idaho is facing profound grief as a man was discovered unclothed beside his deceased 10-month-old child. This tragic incident occurred only days after the mother of the infant, who was also the man's wife, was found dead in a homicide

On Saturday, December 2, 48-year-old Jeremy Albert Best was discovered in a sleeping bag on the roadside east of Idaho Falls. This followed a series of "odd statements" he had made earlier that morning, as stated in a press release from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect has been arrested

According to a statement, the sheriff's office indicated that Jeremy Albert Best, previously identified as a suspect in his wife's death, was transported to the Bonneville County Jail once medically cleared. The release stated that Best would be held in custody until his arraignment before the court.

What charges does Best face?

According to East Idaho News, a criminal complaint states that Best is charged with two counts of murder, one in connection with the death of his pregnant wife, Kali Jean Randall, 38, and one in connection with the baby the woman was carrying.

Kali Jean Randall was found dead Thursday night at the family’s home in Victor, Idaho. Authorities released an Amber Alert shortly after discovering Best and Randall’s 10-month-old child Zeke Gregory Best and his father were missing.

What did Randall's family say after the child's death?

“We thank all of you for walking with us during this time,” stated Randall's family in a message on Saturday, following the discovery of Zeke's lifeless body and the arrest of his father. The statement was provided to East Idaho News by Brian Randall, Kali's brother.

“Our Zeke is now at rest with his loving mama and unborn sibling,” Randall’s brother further said.

“The pain we feel is unimaginable and we thank everyone for their support. You will never know how you have lifted our family up during this time. As this is an ongoing investigation, we ask for privacy as we take time to process and grieve,” he added.

Brian, with tears in his eyes, previously expressed that his sister was a truly beautiful soul, and he never suspected anything other than Best, her husband, being a "normal guy."

Reflecting on the situation, Brian mentioned that sometimes you may not fully know people, emphasizing that he was unaware of any conflicts between the couple.

When did Best meet Randall?

Brian previously confirmed that his sister met Best in 2009. The couple married in September 2022, her social media posts show.

Kali, an artist known for crafting handmade jewelry and with a background as a veterinary technician, had a passion for her creative pursuits. The Bonneville County Coroner, Rick Taylor, informed the outlet that the cause of death for Zeke has not been determined at this point.

The Bonneville Sheriff's Office said in its statement that its detectives, Idaho State Police, and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office are “continuing to investigate” the child’s death after processing the scene where he and Best were discovered.

Authorities said over the weekend that Best was allegedly found naked in a sleeping bag by a group of hunters, who then called police. Zeke was found dead nearby on the side of the road.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the victims involved in this case,” the sheriff’s office said. “Further information about this case will be available at an appropriate time in the future as the investigation is still ongoing."
