Outrage as Joy Reid compares Mark Kelly to 'mayonnaise sandwich' while discussing Kamala Harris' VP pick
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC host Joy Reid is facing flak after she compared Sen Mark Kelly (D-Az) to a "mayonnaise sandwich" on account of him being White, in a TikTok video she uploaded on Wednesday, August 7,
The remark was made by Reid as she shared her take on Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris' choice of running mate for the upcoming general election, which the latter announced on Tuesday.
Minnesota Gov Tim Walz became the Democratic vice presidential candidate for 2024, over two other shortlisted candidates - Kelly, and Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro.
Joy Reid's comment on TikTok
Appearing on the platform in a laid-back gray sweatshirt and a cap, Reid is seen saying in the now-viral clip, "I gotta be honest, keep it real, this is not the (VP candidate) pick that I expected that she (Kamala Harris) would make."
"It did come down to the final three, as we understand it, and I thought she would go astronaut (Mark Kelly). Keeping it real. He to me would have been the 'safest,' most conventionally safe pick - White, super White. Like, you know, mayonnaise sandwich on Wonder Bread white. From a border state, he could have made a strong argument for her..." she continued.

"The people that choose to give this woman a platform and keep paying her to air her insane, racist views should be exposed and forced to explain how these views align with their own or their organization," demanded a sixth.
