WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris shared a video of a phone call on Tuesday, August 6, where she asked Tim Walz to join her ticket as vice president.

In the video, Harris, dressed in a suit, called Walz, who appeared to be at home in Minnesota wearing a T-shirt, slacks, and a camo hat.



 

Tim Walz's enthusiastic response to Kamala Harris' phone call

Tim Walz replied that he would be honored to serve as her running mate when Kamala Harris said that she wanted to team up with him.

“Listen, I want you to do this with me. Let’s do this together,” Harris said. “Would you be my running mate? And let’s get this thing on the road.”

“I would be honored, Madam Vice President,” Tim Walz responded.

“The joy that you’re bringing back to the country, the enthusiasm that’s out there. It will be a privilege to take this with you across the country," he said further.

Harris then elaborated on her choice of Walz. “Let me say I have just utmost respect for you,” she said.

“I have really enjoyed our work together, and you understand our country you have dedicated yourself to our country in so many different and beautiful ways.”

“And we’re going to do this, we’re going to win,” Harris continued. “And we’re going to unify our country and remind everyone that we are fighting for the future for everyone.”

Kamala Harris picks Tim Walz as her vice presidential candidate

Kamala Harris officially announced Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, August 6.

"I am proud to announce that I've asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate," Harris posted on X.



 

"As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team," she added.

In reply, Walz expressed his commitment, "It is the honor of a lifetime to join @KamalaHarris in this campaign. I’m all in."

"Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks!" he added on X.



 

Walz later shared a video on X, introducing himself to the public. "Growing up, I learned to be generous toward my neighbors, compromise without compromising my values, and to work for the common good."

"@KamalaHarris and I both believe in that common good – in that fundamental promise of America. We’re ready to fight for it. And like she says: when we fight, we win," he captioned the video.



 

Internet reacts to Kamala Harris' call to Tim Walz

Netizens elicited mixed feelings over Kamala Harris' call to Tim Walz. Some expressed they were moved to tears while others criticized the fakeness of it. 

"Beautiful ticket," wrote one user on X. "I would be honored, Madam Vice President," nearly brought a tear to my eye. This is the new America," reacted another.

However, not all comments were positive. One user wrote, "You are so fake!" Another questioned, "Unifying the country? By doing what, exactly?"

Some mocked the call, with one saying, "Thankfully there was already a camera and lighting crew set up in his living room, to capture this surprise phone call!"

Someone else remarked, "You two will be a great leadership team for our country! I can’t wait to vote for you!"
