VATICAN CITY: Just hours after the death of Pope Francis, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene triggered a storm of outrage online with a tweet that many believe took a celebratory tone.

The Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis, age 88, early Monday morning, following a string of recent health issues. The pontiff, known for his dedication to the poor and outspoken views on social justice, died peacefully at his residence.

“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church,” said the Vatican in its official statement. They praised him as a “true disciple of the Lord Jesus” and commended his soul to “the infinite merciful love” of God, reports Irish Star.

Marjorie Taylor Greene shares cryptic tweet that appears to celebrate Pope Francis' death

While world leaders, both political and religious, paused to mourn, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) struck a jarring tone. Without mentioning Pope Francis by name, Greene posted to X, “Today there were major shifts in global leaderships. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.”

The timing of her post, just hours after the pope’s death was announced, left many drawing a direct connection.

Though Greene has not clarified her remarks, her history of inflammatory religious rhetoric and disdain for Francis’ progressive stances has only fueled speculation that the post was intentional.

Marjorie Taylor Greene faces fierce backlash over controversial tweet following Pope Francis' death

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the outspoken Republican representative from Georgia, is under fire once again—this time for a cryptic and seemingly celebratory tweet following the death of Pope Francis at age 88.

The message, widely condemned as cruel and inappropriate, quickly ignited a firestorm across social media.

“You’re pure evil,” one user bluntly stated.

“You’re a disgrace to America and the world,” another added.

Others didn’t hold back in expressing moral outrage, “Shame on you lady. This is disgusting.”

One user lamented, “How do you live with so much hate and vitriol in your soul? Your walk on Earth will be remembered for the evil you have done and the evil you have supported. Jesus Christ knows the evil that resides is in your dark heart and will act accordingly.”

“Amen. Still a lot of enemies of God out there,” one person wrote.

Rep Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) didn’t hold back with his sharp wit, posting on social media, “If you are here, who is running hell?”

Donald Trump pays tribute to Pope Francis by lowering flags nationwide

President Donald Trump honored the death of Pope Francis by ordering US flags to be flown at half-staff starting Monday, April 21—Easter Monday.

In a formal proclamation shared on Truth Social, Trump called for flags to be lowered across federal buildings, military posts, and naval stations nationwide, as a sign of respect for the late pontiff.

Vice President JD Vance, who met with Francis just one day earlier on Easter Sunday, said he was deeply saddened by the loss. “My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him,” Vance added.

Pope Francis often found himself at odds with conservative critics, who took issue with his more progressive stance on some topics.
