WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden once again repeated a long-debunked claim of traveling 17,000 miles with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Daily Mail reported.

Speaking at a White House event on Thursday, April 4, marking Greek Independence Day, the 81-year-old doubled down on the false claims, recalling a conversation with his Chinese counterpart.

"I was once asked by Xi Jinping, and I traveled 17,000 miles with him— I was out at the Tibetan plateau. He looked at me and he said, 'can you define America?' I could say the same thing if he asked me to define Greece," Biden said.

"I said, 'yes, one word' and I mean this sincerely, it's recorded, I said, 'possibilities,'" he recounted.

Joe Biden's frequently repeated debunked claim

The president has frequently repeated this around 21 times, earning him a 'bottomless Pinocchio' rating by The Washington Post in 2021. The rating is given for "false or misleading statements repeated so often that they became a form of propaganda."

Another recent event where he made the same claim was the Governors Ball Dinner in February at the White House, where he said, " I traveled 17,000 miles with him [Xi Jinping] throughout the country — our country and — and in — in China, as well."

Biden's repeat use of the 17,000-mile figure indicated his attempt to illustrate his efforts in fostering his diplomatic relationship with Xi, which was at rock bottom when his predecessor, Donald Trump, left office in 2021.

The White has remained silent about the figure so far, and as per Daily Mail, Biden's calculation would not add up even after totaling the distance both leaders traveled together in the same plane or vehicle.

Joe Biden makes an Obama gaffe

Besides the 17,000-mile remarks, Biden faced another embarrassing moment when he referred to the Obama administration, calling it the "O'Biden administration."

The president stumbling over words stirred laughter among the crowd. This is the latest in the list of Biden's embarrassing gaffes amid his re-election bid for a rematch with Trump.

Concerns about the incumbent's cognitive ability and age made headlines after a special counsel report in February described him as "an elderly man with poor memory."

According to the report by special counsel Robert Hur, Biden was unable to remember the year in which his eldest son, Beau Biden, died.

However, the president defended his age in the 2024 State of the Union address, noting it as an advantage in terms of experience. "I know I may not look like it, but I've been around a while. And when you get to my age certain things become clearer than ever before," he said in March.

Internet slams Joe Biden over false claims

Internet users lashed out at Biden and labeled him a 'liar' for repeating the false claim of traveling 17,000 miles with the Chinese president.

One user wrote, "Joe Biden is a pathological liar @POTUS."

"Biden has got to come up with new material. These repeated lies are as old as he is," another individual remarked.

A third response read, "What a habitual liar!"

A fourth user added, "What an embarrassment for the @TheDemocrats@POTUS Let's start calling this exactly what it is, without being afraid. This performance is embarrassing and he is in charge of the free world. I am sick of incompetence and lies."

"I honestly believe he believes it. He is seriously cognitively impaired," someone else said. An individual claimed, "Every time you see his lips moving, he's lying"

A remark read, "Liar and clown! Actually sad!"

Another one wrote, "Another lie. This has been disproved."
